Men's Scrimmage to be WUG Tryout

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 3, 2011) – Top young U.S. men’s volleyball players from around the United States, including two local players, will be in University Park, Pa., for the U.S. Men’s National Training Team inter-squad scrimmage and World University Games team tryout at 8 p.m. on May 6 in Rec Hall.

The scrimmage is being held as part of the Volleyball Extravaganza, which is being held at Penn State University in conjunction with the NCAA Men’s Volleyball National Championship. The championship semifinals will be Thursday, May 5 and the final will be played Saturday, May 7.

Among those expected to compete are Penn State alums Luke Murray (East Petersburg, Pa.), a setter, and Will Price (Gaithersburg, Md.), an opposite.

Former Stanford setter Kawika Shoji (Honolulu, Hawaii), a three-time AVCA All-America first teamer and the 2010 AVCA Player of the Year, is also expected to compete along with his brother, Erik, a three-time All America libero at Stanford.

Both brothers were members of Stanford’s 2010 National Championship team along with outside hitter Brad Lawson (Honolulu, Hawaii) a two-time member of the AVCA All-America first team, who will also be trying out.

Tickets for the scrimmage are $4 for adults and $2 for students and will be available at the door.
