COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 17, 2011) – USA Volleyball has announced that it will be combining the two youngest age divisions at its USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships prior to splitting for age-group championships.
For the 2011 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships to be held June 29 to July 6 at Minneapolis, the 12-and-Under and 13-and-Under Club divisions will be combined. The two divisions will play each other in pool play June 29 and June 30. On July 1, the two age divisions will split into their own age groups. The 12 Club division will play its final bracket for the championship, while the 13 Club division will play one round of pool play. The 13 Club will play a single elimination round with one championship match on July 2. Both the 12 Club and 13 Club divisions will be conducted on the 13’s net (7’ 4 1/8”) with the 13’s ball (Molten Pro-Touch V58) for all 4 days.
This combination of the 12s and 13s age divisions will be kept regardless of how many additional teams sign up in either division prior to the closing of registration on June 6. Currently, a total of 8 teams registered in the combined division (three 13s, five 12s).
The 32nd USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Last year’s event in Austin, Texas, drew 361 teams and this year’s event is expected to reach upwards to 385 teams.
Minneapolis has been an active host partner with USA Volleyball. The 2011 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships will be Minneapolis’ fifth USAV national championship event since 2003, in addition to hosting a home weekend of 2006 FIVB World League matches. Minneapolis last hosted the USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships in 2006, and it was awarded the 2007 USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships. Minneapolis has hosted the USA Volleyball Open National Championships in 2009, 2003 and 1945.
