Dalhausser, Rogers Advance to Prague Open Semifinals

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 20, 2011) – The U.S. men’s team of Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers remained undefeated through Friday to advance into the semifinals in the Prague Open in Czech Republic, a stop on the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH World Tour.

Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.), the Prague Open’s top-seeded team, dominated in two victories on Friday. The reigning Olympic gold medalists defeated Czech Republic’s ninth-seeded team of Petre Benes and Premysl Kubala 21-19, 21-19 in a 43-minute, third-round match. Dalhausser and Rogers downed Switzerland’s 29th-seeded Sascha Heyer and Sebastian Chevallier 21-18, 21-16 in the fourth round.

Dalhausser and Rogers, the defending Prague Open champions, will face a semifinal opponent decided after Saturday’s consolation matches.

Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) and Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, Calif.), seeded third in the tournament, lost to China’s sixth-seeded Linyin Xu and Penggen Wu 21-18, 21-19 in the consolation round on Friday. Gibb and Rosenthal will finish tied for 17th.

The Czech Republic stop of the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH World Tour will continue Saturday with the semifinal matches to follow the last two rounds of consolation. The medal matches will follow on Sunday.
