COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 21, 2011) – The U.S. men’s team of Phil Dalhuasser and Todd Rogers will compete in the Prague Open gold-medal match on Sunday as part of a stop on the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH World Tour.
Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.) defeated Brazil’s 12th-seeded team Henrique Cunha Pedro and Pedro Solberg Salgado 40-28, 21-19 in one hour and two minutes, the second longest match of the tournament, in the semifinal round to advance to the gold-medal match.
Dalhausser and Rogers, the top-seeded team, will compete against second-seeded Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti of Brazil for their chance to repeat last year’s Prague Open results.
“It will not be easy. They will be going big time for us,” Rogers said in an FIVB release. “Alison is an absolutely beast at the net. It will be the thin beast (Dalhausser) against the big beast.”
The U.S. duo has gone undefeated during the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour season, capturing gold at both the Shanghai and Brasilia Open.
Both medal matches are slated for Sunday.
