U.S. Girls’ Youth National Training Team Selected

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 2, 2011)- The USA Volleyball High Performance Department is pleased to announced the 2011 U.S. Girls’ Youth National Training Team (GYNTT).

The 25 players have been selected from any of the 36 High Performance (HP) tryouts held throughout the country from Feb. to April. Those players are vying for a spot on the 12-person roster that will compete at the 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth (U-18) World Championship to be held Aug. 12-21 in Ankara, Turkey.

The training team will train June 3-5 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.,  where the coaching staff, led by U.S. Girls' Youth National Team Head Coach Jim Stone, will evaluate the talent and make the final decision on the 12-player roster for the FIVB Girls' Youth World Championship. Stone will be assisted by Melissa Wolter of University of West Florida and Charlene Whitted of USA Volleyball High Performace. In addition to the 12-person Girls’ National Team roster, seven alternates will be declared at the conclusion of the tryout.

Eight players are returning from the 2010 GYNT that defeated Mexico to capture the gold medal at the 2010 NORCECA Girls’ Youth Continental Championship in Guatemala. Returning players include Jordan Burgess (Tampa, Fla., 2012), Mylan Eugene (Houston, Texas, 2014), Angela Lowak (New Braunfels, Texas, 2012), Andie Malloy (Allen, Texas, 2012), Molly McCage (Spring, Texas. 2012), Allison Palmer (Laguna Beach, Calif., 2012), Haley Pouliezos (Imperial, Mo., 2012) and Shelby Sullivan (Richardson, Texas, 2012).

The 25 athletes represent 13 USA Volleyball Regions including five from the Lone Star region, four from both the Rocky Mountain and North Texas regions, two from both the Great Plains and Florida regions, and one each from Chesapeake, Columbia Empire, Great Lakes, Heart of America, Southern California, Gateway and Northern California region.

The U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team will compete at the2011 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships slated for July 20-July 29 in Tucson, Ariz., and will train July 29- Aug. 9 in Lake Placid. Both the training session and tournament will provide ample training time for strategy heading to Turkey for the FIVB World Championship.
