COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 6, 2011) – The 2011 USA Beach Volleyball Junior Tour hosted 14 teams at the Great Plains Open on June 4-5 in Omaha, Neb.
In the first round of pool play, teams played two games to 15 points. In the second round of pool play, the teams played the best of three games to 15 points.
The girls’ under-12 and U14 divisions competed on June 4 under an overcast morning sky, which later turned into a hot and sunny afternoon. The No. 1-seeded team of Elena Melendez (Omaha, Neb.) and Halie McArdle (Gretna, Neb.) were winners within the girls’ U14 division and also captured first in the tournament with an overall set record of 10-0.
Jasmine Schmidt (Omaha, Neb.) and Alaetra Long (Omaha, Neb.) finished first in the girls’ U12 division. The second-seeded team of Carly Castle (Omaha, Neb.) and Addison Thonen (Omaha, Neb.) were upset in the semifinals 15-4, 11-15, 10-15, but then finished third 15-8, 16-14 with an overall record of 11-2 in the Girls’ U14 division.
On the second day of the tournament, Omaha was scorching hot for the Girls’ U16 and U18 divisions’ players. The No. 1-seeded team of Beth Rasmussen (Plattsmouth, Neb.) and Addison Smith (Omaha, Neb.) captured first in the U16 girls’ division with an 8-3 record. No. 3 seeded team of Miranda Charles (Meade, Neb.) and Devynn Patocka (Mead, Neb.) won second-place within the U16 division. The No. 2-seeded team of the Girls’ U16 division, Michaela Viloria (Bellevue, Neb.) and Nathalia Ybay (Bellevue, Neb.), placed third in the girls’ U16. The No. 1-seeded team of Kayla Haneline and Brittany Prescott won the girls’ U18 division with an overall set record of 10-1.
