USAV Announces Girls’ Select Programs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 8, 2011)- The USA Volleyball Indoor High Performance Department is pleased to announce the rosters for its Girls’ Select A1, Girls’ Select A2 and Girls’ Select Continental Teams that will train and compete at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in Tucson, Ariz., July 20-30.

The first five days in Tucson will serve as training days where the staff will divide all three programs into 11-player tiered rosters to compete at the High Performance (HP) Championships. Four members of the Girls’ Select A2 (GSA2) program will be called up to compete on one of the three GSA1 teams.

The athletes selected to participate in these programs are the highest-ranked Select-age group volleyball players in the country, determined by the 2011 USA Girls’ HP tryouts.

The Girls’ Select A1 Program (GSA1), Girls’ Select A2 Program (GSA2) and Girls’ Select Continental Program consist of the top-level athletes for the Select age group born in 1996 or 1997. The A1-level program is the top level within the USAV HP department for all age groups that do not have a national team that will compete internationally. The Girls’ Select Continental team consists of the top players whose regions do not offer an HP program or do offer am HP program but are not sending a team to this year’s HP Championships.

Anne Kordes will serve as the GSA1 head coach. Kordes was recently named head women’s volleyball coach at the University of Louisville after seven seasons with Saint Louis. She has ample HP experience, servicing as a coaching staff member for Girls’ High Performance teams since 2000.

Tom Hogan will serve as the Girls’ Select A2 head coach. He is the assistant volleyball coach at the University of Colorado and a former assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team during its silver-medal performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Jeff Wanderer, head volleyball coach at West Hills College, Andrew Wehrli of Nebraska Elite and Abbey Masters of Bethel University will serve as head coaches of the program.
