SHANGHAI, China (June 11, 2011) – In the last match of the three-match series, the U.S. Women’s Sitting National Team won another close contest over the Shanghai club team, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 on Saturday at the Shanghai Disabled Persons’ Sport Center.

The United States’ top scorer was once again Katie Holloway (Lake Stevens, Wash.) with 27 points on 23 kills, two blocks and two aces. Michelle Gerlosky (Lake Wales, Fla.) and Nichole Millage (Champaign, Ill.) each had 12 points. The team passed for a 2.18 average and hit 0.215.

The U.S. Women’s Sitting Team started the first set with Holloway and Millage at outside, Kaleo Kanahele (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Alison Aldrich (Schuyler, Neb.) at setter/right side, Gerlosky and Monique Burkland (Plainview, Okla.) at middle, and Kari Miller (Washington, D.C.) at libero. The U.S. played well defensively but struggled to keep pace at the net with the hard-hitting Shanghai team. Shanghai won the first set.

U.S. Head Coach Bill Hamiter (Bethany, Okla.) went with a familiar lineup in the remaining sets using Gerlosky as an outside, Aldrich at middle and Millage at setter/right side. Angela DeHaan (Yuba City, Calif.) was used as a serving specialist. The lineup change seemed to help balance the American attack. The United States blocked well and continued to play its best defense of the series, helping it to win sets two, three and four.

"We were very pleased to take two matches from the home team,” Hamiter said. “I was especially impressed with the progress of our younger players on this trip. Playing in close, high-level matches such as these is exactly what we need to continue our development heading toward London 2012."
