U.S. Beach Volleyball Junior Tour Hosts NoCal Open

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 13, 2011) – The 2011 USA Beach Volleyball Junior Tour hosted 55 girls’ and 12 boys’ teams at the NoCal Open on June 11 in Santa Cruz, Calif.

The teams faced some foggy and windy weather, which made the competition even tougher at this event.

The sold-out girls’ divisions provided some competitive play. The girls’ under-12 (U-12) first-place team was Lillian Barber (Corte Madera, Calif.) and Mariana Molina (Petaluma Calif.), Tori Dilfer (Saratoga, Calif.) and Madeline Holland (Menlo Park, Calif.) won second place. Milla Anderson (Danville, Calif.) and Roxanne Wiblin (Berkely, Calif.) tied Lexi Mudd (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Gabrielle Banaszek (Petaluma, Calif.) for third place.

The winners of the girls’ U-14 division were Shannon Richardson (Morgan Hill, Calif.) and Alexandra Kim (Daly City, Calif.). The Los Altos, Calif., team of Breanna Roy and Jenifer Desanto finished second. Tied for third was the team of Lauren Utchen (Sam Ramon, Calif.) and Abigail Preiss (Danville, Calif.) and team of Lulu Kishton (Mountain View, Calif.) and Emma Paige (Los Altos, Calif.).

First-place winners in the girls’ U-16 division were Alexandria Espinosa (Sunnyvale, Calif.) and Kelsey Crawford (Sunnyvale, Calif.). Shannon Cotton (Aptos, Calif.) and Alexandra Wheeler (Saratoga, Calif.) finished second. The Lafayette, Calif., team of Joanna Harnish and Abbey Healey tied Kelly Bielaski (San Ramon, Calif.) and Alexandra Lim (Danville, Calif.) for third place.

In the girls’ U-18 division, Lizzy Tardieu (San Jose, Calif.) and Clare Powers (San Jose, Calif.) captured first place. Belle Obert (Lomis, Calif.) and Bailey Humes (Lincoln, Calif.) took second. Zoe Nightingale (Sacramento, Calif.) and Vanessa Edwards (Mather, Calif.) finished third.

In the boys’ bracket, brothers Gage and Joe Worsley (Moraga, Calif.) competed in the NoCal Open. With their previous first place finish in the San Diego Open, they earned bids to the USA Beach Junior Tour Championships on July 23 in Chicago, Ill. At the NoCal Open, the brothers split up and played with new partners, but both topped the podium again.

In the boys’ U-14 division, Gage Worsley (Moraga, Calif.) and Jordan Ewert (Antioch, Calif.) captured first place. Joe Worsley (Moraga, Calif.) and Blake Markland (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) won second. Pete Jones (Moraga, Calif.) and Chris Wan (San Francisco, Calif.) tied with Taylor Ho (Foster City, Calif.) and Drew Mammen (San Jose, Calif.) for third place.

For the boys’ U-16 division, Tyler Dammann (Santa Cruz, Calif.) and Derek Wolf (Santa Cruz, Calif.) took first place. Ian Richardson (Morgan Hill, Calif.) and Avi Agarwal (Cuptertin, Calif.) finished second.

The boys’ U-18 first place winners were the Clovis, Calif., duo of Evan Ormondo and Jon Ferarri.
