COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 24, 2011) - USA Volleyball and the Rocky Mountain Region, one of 40 Regional Volleyball Associations within USA Volleyball, will host three events at this year’s Rocky Mountain State Games including beach, grass and indoor tournaments.

The Rocky Mountain State Games is a multi-sport festival for Colorado citizens of all ages and athletic abilities including physically disabled, visually impaired and Paralympic athletes. Recognized by the National Congress of State Games, a member of the United States Olympic Committee, the 2011 Rocky Mountain State Games will be held July 22-24 and July 29-31 in Colorado Springs.

USA Volleyball is currently looking for participants in all divisions and competitions at this year’s Rocky Mountain State Games. Come join the fun and get a team together to compete in one or even two of our events. Each event has both male and female competitions in four different divisions: junior 15U, junior 18U, adult A, and adult B. All events will be held on the weekend of July 30-31, 2011.

To kick-start the multi-sport event, American Idol winner Taylor Hicks will be performing at the Rocky Mountain States Games Opening Ceremony on July 29 at Colorado Springs World Arena.

The following is information about the various events that are scheduled at this year’s Rocky Mountain State Games.

Grass & Beach
The grass event will be held July 30 starting at 8 a.m. at the Armstrong Quad (14 E. Cache La Poudre) located on the Colorado College campus in Colorado Springs. The beach event will be held on July 31 starting at 9 a.m. at Memorial Park beach courts (1605 E. Pikes Peak Ave). Both events consist of two-person teams limited to the first 32 teams to sign up. The event format will be pool play with the top teams advancing to bracket play. Each mach is a best-of-three series, using rally scoring. All matches are self-officiated. Fees for the event are:

  • Early Registration (Up to July 15)
    • Juniors (high school seniors & under)- $50 per team
    • Adult- $60 per team
  • Late Registration (July 16- Day of Competition)
    • Juniors- $60 per team
    • Adult- $70 per team

Indoor
The indoor event will be held July 31 starting at 8 a.m. at the Big House (1480 North Newport Road) in Colorado Springs. It consists of a minimum of six-person teams; maximum 12 per team and the first 24 teams to register will be accepted. The format of the event will be pool play with the top teams advancing to bracket play. Each match is a best-of-three series, using rally scoring to 25 points winning by two points. If a third set is necessary, play is to 15 points, must win by two points. Idle teams will be scheduled to officiate matches. Teams must provide their own uniforms that must have numbers on both the back and front, 6 inches on the front and 8 inches on the back. Fees for the event are:

  • Early Registration (Up to July 15)
    • Adult & Juniors (high school seniors & under)- $110 per team
  • Late Registration (July 16- Day of Competition)
    • Adult & Juniors- $120 per team

About the Rocky Mountain State Games
The Rocky Mountain State Games (RMSG) is a multi-sport festival for Colorado citizens of all ages and athletic abilities including physically disabled, visually impaired and Paralympic athletes. Recognized by the National Congress of State Games, a member of the United States Olympic Committee, the 2011 Rocky Mountain State Games will be held July 22-24 and July 29-31 in Colorado Springs.

Organized and managed by the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, the 2011 RMSG will offer competition in 33 sports. Competition will take place along the Front Range with venues including: U.S. Olympic Training Center, U.S. Air Force Academy, Memorial Park, Fort Carson, Colorado College and other venues in Colorado Springs.

Additional Information
A one-time Rocky Mountain Region of USA Volleyball membership fee is NOT included. Participants must present proof of membership or pay a $5 membership fee during on-site check-in. If you are a member of RMR or USAV, please list your membership number in the volleyball sport specific questions on the entry form.

Women may play on men's teams. These teams will play in the men’s division.

If you are interested in competing in multiple events, it has to be a combination of indoor and grass.

Age Requirements

  • 15 & Under Division: Players who were born on or after Sept. 1, 1995.
  • 18 & Under Division: Players who were born on or after Sept. 1, 1992 OR players who were born on or after Sept. 1, 1991 and a high school student during the 2010-2011 school year.
  • Each individual player will be registered by his/her coach and must sign the roster/waiver; if under 18 a guardian must sign the roster/waiver.
