MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (June 30, 2011) – Five 18 Open teams remained undefeated after the second day of their round-robin pool play at the 2011 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships, Thursday. Balboa Bay Quiksilver, OCVC18-1, SMBC Black, SPVB B18 Mizuno and Ultimate B18 Gold all maintain a 6-0 record heading into Friday’s brackets.
Several divisions competed today including 12s, 13s, 14s, and 18s on 25 of the 36 courts in the Minneapolis Convention Center. The crowds grew as more teams arrived in the Twin City to register for various age-divisions that will begin play later in the week.
Crossing Countries to Crossing Courts at BJNC
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (June 30, 2011) – Teams have driven through city borders traveled past state lines, flown over country boundaries and jet-set above bodies of water to compete at the 2011 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships (BJNC) being held June 29 to July 6 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
“This is a great experience for all of us and we will travel to wherever we need to,” Adyan Benites, a member of the Puerto Rican-based Criollos 15U club team said. “It’s fun to travel outside of Puerto Rico to see all of the different cultures and to show-off ours.”

Game, Set… Start
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 29, 2011) - At 7:40 a.m. Alexis and Courtney Simmons stood in front of 300-plus boys’ volleyball players, parents and fans to sing the Star Spangled Banner kicking off the 2011 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships (BJNC) at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis. The event continues through July 6.
“We will probably be singing every morning,” Alexis said of the morning tradition starting off every day of the USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships. “Either both of us or one of us will be here.”
Before all attendees stood to salute the flag on Wednesday, the crowds were already making their way around the Minneapolis Convention Center. Teams began lining up outside the four double doors at 6:45 a.m. for an 8 a.m. start.
