MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (July 3, 2011) – The fifth day of the 2011 Boys’ Junior National Championships continued Sunday with the 14-club and open divisions concluding at the championship court in the Minneapolis Convention Center.

In the 14-club division Puerto Rico teams captured all three medals with the gold going to Gigantes, silver to the Pitirres and bronze going to Vaqueros.

In the 14-open division Puerto Rico again took the gold, earned by Halcones de Torrimar. Silver went to SMBC (Southern California) and bronze when to PAC RIM (Northern California.  

Both the 15 Club and 15 Open division medal matches will take place Monday on the Championship Court in the Minneapolis Convention Center. The matches will be streamed live at www.usavolleyball.org/live.

USAV Boys’ Junior Nationals By the Numbers

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (July 3, 2011) – It has been a numbers game at the 2011 USA Volleyball (USAV) Boys’ Junior National Championships (BJNC), taking place June 29 to July 6 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, from the number of points to the number of volleyball hours clocked by the athletes, coaches, fans and staff.

Below is a list of numbers that are crucial in the equation that make up the 32nd annual USAV BJNC.

1 - There is one USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships each year and all of the matches are held under one roof, this year at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

2 - A total of two teams from Guam traveled to compete at the championships.

3 - Three Canadian teams ventured south to cross the country borders for a chance to take home the gold.

14s Division Gives Puerto Rico 4 Medals, 2 Gold

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (July 3, 2011) – It was the 14-and-Under teams’ day on Sunday at the 2011 USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships (BJNC) as both the club and open divisions wrapped up play with four tough medal matches, all played on the championship court in the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Halcones de Torrimar (Puerto Rico) claimed the gold in the 14 Open division, while Gigantes 14 (Puerto Rico) captured the 14 Club division title. Competition at the (BJNC) continues on July 4 with medal matches in the 15 Open and 15 Club divisions, followed by the 16 Open and 16 Club divisions on July 5 and the 17 Open and 17 Club division medal matches on July 6.

The sweep of the 14-club division by Puerto Rico started with the bronze-medal match victory by Vaqueros 14-1 (Puerto Rico), who defeated Southside Black 14s (Moku O Keawe) 25-23, 25-11.
