USA Beach Junior Tour Hosts Western Open

The USA Beach Volleyball Junior Tour hosted the Western Open on June 11 at Alki Beach in Seattle.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 12, 2011) – The USA Beach Volleyball Junior Tour saw 64 teams compete at the Western Open on July 11 at Alki Beach in Seattle.
In the girls’ U12 (under-12) division, Hannah Pukis (Tacoma, Wash.) and Claire McCarthy (Puyallup, Wash.) captured first place. The Seattle team of Gabrielle Demick and Delaney Hopen won second. The Snowhomish, Wash. team of Mina Duong and Kelly McGinnis tied for third with Kaelin Scheuerman (Edmonds, Wash.) and Emily McKenzie (Bothell, Wash.).
The Seattle team of Shayne McPherson and April Eneliko took first in the girls’ U14 division. Camryn Buell (Lakewood, Wash.) and Kaycee Shaffer (University Place, Wash.) came in second place. Aya Bispham (Federal Way, Wash.) and Mae Thungc (Kent, Wash.) tied for third with the Puyallup, Wash. team of Abbi Bailey and Kyla Ogburn.
In the girls’ U16 division, Anna Crabtree (Seattle) and Casey Schoenlein (Seattle) won first place. Megan Smith (Seattle) and Tabby Webb (Seattle) placed second. Jessica Riddle (Coupeville, Wash.) and Taylor Rodriguez (Anacortes, Wash.) tied for third place with the Seattle team of Monica Poster and Anne Marie Gonzolas.
Taking first in the girls’ U18 division were Jennica McPherson (Seattle) and Gabriel Bird-Vogel (Seattle). Sarah Baugh (Poulsbo, Wash.) and Allie Schumacher (Puyallup, Wash.) finished in second place. The Issaquah, Wash. team of Kelsey Mollick and Samantha North tied for third place with Lauren Joseph (Richland, Wash.) and Meghan McIntyre (Kennewick, Wash.).
In addition to crowning the champions of the Western Open, sixteen additional teams were awarded bids to the upcoming USA Beach Junior Tour Championship on July 23 in Chicago.
The events leading up to the USA Beach Junior Tour Championship include the Ohio Valley Open from July 16-17 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Hawkeye Open on July 16 in Des Moines, Iowa, the Texas Open on July 16 in Galveston, Texas and the Great Lakes Open on July 17 in Rochester, N.Y.
