COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 14, 2011) – The USA Volleyball beach department hosted 38 athletes at its Youth & Junior Beach High Performance Camp on July 11-14 in Hermosa Beach, Calif.

The campers worked on all aspects of beach volleyball and also heard motivational speeches from 2000 Olympic gold medalist Eric Fonoimoana and also Jeremy “Troll” Subin, a noted strength and conditioning coach.

The goal of the camp is to get the young beach players ready for the USAV Beach High Performance Championships (HPC) on July 14-17 in Hermosa Beach, Calif.

The Beach HPC will give participants exposure to international style competition within five separate age divisions. FIVB rules and match format will be used to simulate international competition. All matches will be best of three to 21, with the third set to 15.

“Our goal is to give our athletes from 13 to 25 a true international-style experience,” said Ali Wood Lamberson, USAV’s director of beach programs. “We want to prepare them for the next level of competition.”

Approximately 125 boys’ and girls’ teams are scheduled to compete in the Beach HP Championships.

The Gold Division winning teams in the under-15, U-17 and U-19 age groups will be invited to a USA Volleyball Beach Holiday High Performance Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

Gold Division Champion Teams in the U-26 group will represent the United States at a NORCECA Beach Circuit event.
