COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 19, 2011) – The USA Beach Junior Tour hosted the Great Lakes Open on July 17 on the shores of Lake Erie at Ontario Beach Park, in Rochester, New York.

More than 65 teams battled through 95 degree heat in the last regular season qualifier of the 2011 USA Beach Junior Tour season. The Great Lakes Open awarded 22 bids to the USA Beach Junior Tour Championship, which will be held July 23 in Chicago.

In the girls’ under-14 (U14) division, the Pittsford, N.Y. team of Julianna Provvidenza and Becca Gainsburg captured first. Hannah Smith (Victor, N.Y.) and Hannah Wolfe (Pittsford, N.Y.) placed second. Christa Mickol (Brighton, N.Y.) and Alyson Binnert (Hammondsport, N.Y.) tied for third with the Long Island, N.Y., team of Stephanie Bogda and Jamie Scniesinger.

In the girls’ U16 division, Krista Maltzahn (Webster, N.Y.) and Emmy Provero (Victor, N.Y.) won first place. The Hammondsport, N.Y., team of Alissa Walruth and Lauren Binnert took second. Cailyn Hart (Webster, N.Y.) and Liza Beardsley (West Irondequiot, N.Y.) tied for third place with the Gates, N.Y., team of Maria Simonetti and Jessica Simonetti.

Sam Holdredge (Brighton, N.Y.) and Amanda Sedore (Webster, N.Y.) captured first place in the girls’ U18 division. The Eden, N.Y., team of Hannah Herc and Haley Herc won second. Laura Hathaway (Warsaw, N.Y.) and Liz Scott (Canadaigua, N.Y.) tied for third place with Mackenzie Mynter (Caledonia, N.Y.) and Morgan Bills (Wayne, N.Y.).

On the boys’ side, The Rochester, N.Y., team of Stefan Mickol and Mike Voelkl captured first place in the boys’ U14 division. Hayden Herc (Eden, N.Y.) and Cole Overhoff (Eden, N.Y.) placed second. The Victor, N.Y. team of Kam Hall and Collin Mahan tied for third with Jacob Gleason (Hamburg, N.Y.) and Declan Pierce (Eden, N.Y.).

In the boys’ U16 division, Tyler Blank (Irondequiot, N.Y.) and Christian Blough (Ontario, N.Y.) won first place. Shane Chichester (Brockport, N.Y.) and Mike Ellison (Farmington, N.Y.) took second place. Nick Bills (Farmington, N.Y.) and Mike McAlpin (Pittsford, N.Y.) tied for third with Ethan Dangler (Penfield, N.Y.) and Steve Lindenberg (Webster, N.Y.).

Dave Evans (Penfield, N.Y.) and Austin Sanderl (Rush Henrietta, N.Y.) captured first place in the boys’ U18 division and A.J. Logosh (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Steve O’Dell (Rochester, N.Y.) took second place.
