COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 2, 2011) - USA Volleyball is pleased to announce its beach travel teams that will compete at the 2011 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch Junior World Championships Halifax, Canada 2011 for players under 21-years-old from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.
The athletes were selected from various USAV Beach High Performance tryouts across the country.
Tara Roenicke (Alta Loma, Calif.) and Rebecca Strehlow (Long Beach, Calif.) will team up as the women’s USA-1 team. Roenicke and former partner Summer Ross (Carlsbad, Calif.) made history at the 2010 edition of the World Championships by capturing the gold medal and becoming the first U.S. team of either gender to medal at the FIVB Beach Volleyball Junior World Championships.
Caitlin Racich (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Sara Hughes (Costa Mesa, Calif.) will pair to form the USA-2 team. Racich will be a junior outside hitter at Pepperdine University in the fall. Hughes most recently competed in the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch Youth World Championships Umag, Croatia 2011 (U-19) with Justine Wong-Orantes (Cypress, Calif.).
Parker Kalmbach (Coto De Caza, Calif.) will join forces with Vaun Lennon (Westchester, Calif.) as the USA-1 men’s team. Kalmbach was a member of the 2009 USA Beach (U-19) National Team that placed 17th in the FIVB Beach Volleyball Youth World Championships. Both Kalmbach and Lennon will head into their sophomore seasons at Pepperdine University and UC San Diego, respectively.
Ian Satterfield (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Chris Austin (Henderson, Nev.) join forces as the men’s USA-2 team. Satterfield, a freshman at Long Beach State University, was a member of the 2008 U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team that captured the gold medal at the NORCECA Boys’ Youth Continental Championship. Austin was a setter for the Long Beach City College Vikings, but will transfer in the fall to play for the University of California, Irvine.
There will be over 400 athletes under the age of 21 from more than 30 countries competing in the 11th annual men and women’s beach volleyball championships at The Halifax Waterfront.
