COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 7, 2011) – The U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team defeated Netherlands, 25-19, 26-24, 25-18 on Wednesday at the ECVD Continental Cup in Yevpatoriya, Ukraine.

The U.S. Women (5-0) will complete pool play against Great Britain on Thursday. The semifinals will be played on Friday and the finals on Saturday.

As a team, the U.S. led Netherlands in attacks, 30-15 and completed 41.7 of its attack attempts. The United States also led in blocks (7-6) and aces (12-5).

“We played strong and steady throughout most of the match,” U.S. Assistant Coach Cara Lang (Sartell, Minn.) said. “They pushed us in the second game again, which has been our trademark. But we regained control to complete the match in three sets. We served and passed our best so far in this match.”

Katie Holloway (Lake Stevens, Wash./UCO Resident Athlete) led all scorers in Wednesday’s match with 14 points on a match-high nine kills, a match-high three blocks and two aces. Michelle Gerlosky (Lake Wales, Fla.) added nine points on three kills (50.0 kill percent) one block and a match-high five aces.

“Michelle came alive for us tonight in serving,” Lang said.

Brenda Maymon (Sellersburg, Ind.) also scored nine points on eight attacks (57.1 kill percent) and one ace.

Nichole Millage (Champaign, Ill./UCO Resident Athlete) totaled eight points on five kills, one block and two aces. Heather Erickson (Fayetteville, N.C./UCO Resident Athlete) added eight points on five attacks (55.6 kill percent), one block and two aces.

Monique Burkland (Ardmore, Okla./UCO Resident Athlete) scored one point on one block. Libero Kari Miller (Washington, D.C.) led her team in receptions with 12.
