COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 2, 2009) – Approximately 30 up-and-coming beach volleyball players will participate in USA Volleyball’s invitation-only Beach High Performance Holiday Camp on Dec. 27-30 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
Camp coaches will include indoor Olympian and AVP champion Angela Rock, AVP champion John Mayer, AVP champion Anjinho Bacil and USA Volleyball coordinator of beach coaching and development Jon Aharoni.
Among the athletes scheduled to participate are some who already have international volleyball experience: Caitlin Ledoux (Phelan, Calif.), Parker Kalmbach (Coto de Caza, Calif.), Jocelyn Neely (La Habra, Calif.), Jace Olsen (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), Tara Roenicke (Alta Loma, Calif.), Summer Ross (Carlsbad, Calif.), Taylor Sander (Norco, Calif.) and Kyle Stevenson (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.).
“My goal is to expose the athletes to the international volleyball community in order to give them a taste of the training and technology that the U.S. incorporates to stay on top,” Aharoni said. “I want to give them an idea of what it takes to compete at our sport at the world level and get them started along that road.”
The camp will focus on intensive volleyball preparation similar to a pre-world championship competition camp. Video from Olympic and world championship competitions will be broken down and studied from different perspectives.
Other topics to be covered include nutrition, sports psychology, travel advice, active recovery, anti-doping and international-style track and weight routines.
“USA Volleyball is eager to expand our high performance offerings, and excited to see the broad base of national talent developing through our tryouts, camps and USA Beach Junior Tour,” said Ali Wood Lamberson, USA Volleyball’s director of beach programs.
“This camp will be a huge step toward realizing our goal of an organized U.S. Junior Beach National Team program.”
