COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 21, 2010) – Christena Clauss of Fenton, Mo., has been elected to serve on the USA Volleyball Board of Directors through June 30, 2010 as the junior elite indoor representative, filling the seat vacated by Dave Gentile.
“We are so pleased to welcome Christena ‘Chris’ Clauss as the newest member of the USA Volleyball Board of Directors, elected by her peers serving the junior indoor membership,” USA Volleyball Board Chairman David Schreff said. “Her extensive experience and years of service to the junior community in competition, arbitration and club administration make her an excellent addition to our current Board.
“We thank our Junior Assembly and its chair Andy Reitinger and USAV's dedicated Nominating and Governance Committee, which is chaired by Al Lau, in conducting the search for candidates and the recent election to fill this important Board seat."
Clauss previously served as an appointed member of the USA Volleyball Board of Directors for five years (2004-08).
She is a member of several committees for USA Volleyball and for the Gateway Region, which she helped found.
Among the positions Clauss currently holds for USA Volleyball are chairwoman of the Grassroots Commission, chairwoman of the Service Awards and USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships All-Tournament Committee, member of the Competition Committee, arbitrator and member of the Junior Assembly Administrative Council. In 2009, she was presented with USA Volleyball’s George J. Fisher Leader in Volleyball Award
Clauss is also the junior development coordinator for the Gateway Region and serves on its executive board of directors.
Clauss played competitive volleyball from the time she was in high school until 1991 when she began coaching and working as the registrar for the Heart of America Region in the St. Louis area.
Clauss has been an alderman for the City of Fenton since 2005. She is married to Lee Clauss, a retired engineer at Anheuser-Busch who is still an active volleyball player and former coach of the Midwest Select VBC and Meramec Women’s Volleyball team. They have two daughters, Tara and Karin.
