120 Junior Beach Teams Play in Illinois

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo (August 2, 2010) – The USA Volleyball Beach Junior Tour hosted the North Coast Open on July 31 in Chicago, Ill., and 120 teams from across the Midwest participated in the event. The Open had four girls’ divisions, under-12, U14, U16 and U18, and four boys’ divisions, U14, U16, U18 and U20.
Emma Fahning (Farmington, Minn.) and Sheridan Salisbury (Chatfield, Minn.) finished first in the girls’ U12 division after defeating Gabrielle Boudrea (Manteno, Ill.) and Kassidy Jingles (Manteno, Ill.), 21-15. Tying for third place was Olivia Tobec (Ringle, Wis.) and partner Natalie Nimz (Hatley, Wis.) and Caroline Hehir (Weston, Wis.) and Rylie Vaughn (Hatley, Wis.).
Taking the girls’ U14 division title was Alexis Lee (Normal, Ill.) and Marie Less (Forsyth, Ill.) after they defeated Kaycie Hagen (Savage, Minn.) and Gabrielle Salisbury (Chatfield, Minn.), 21-18. Finishing in third place was Alexis Wilson (Orange, Ind.) and Victoria Mills (Elkhart, Ind.) who tied with Meg DeMaar (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Samantha Dubiel (West Chicago, Ill.).
In the girls' U16 division, Sydney Braasch (Colleyville, Texas) and partner Kiersten Braasch (Colleyville, Texas) topped Alexa Ethridge (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Amelia Held (Festus, Mo.), 21-12, in the championship match. Allison Rohn (Cedar Lake, Ind.) and partner Elise Siefert (Cedar Lake, Ind.) and also Rachel Wilson (Granger, Ind.) and Kylie Giger (Elkhart, Ind.) finished in third place.
In the girls’ U18 division, Lindsey Gosh (Oconomowoc, Wis.) and Lauren Gnewuch (Oconomowoc, Wis.) finished in first after a 22-20 victory over Melanie Jereb and Allison Whimpey. Tying for third was Jaqueline Zintak (Evergreen Park, Ill.) and Mallory Frankovich (Evergreem Park, Ill.) and Nicole Moy (Manteno, Ill.) and Jordyn Toia (Skokie, Ill.).
Jeff Cremeans (Dublin, Ohio) and Evan Feltz (Dublin, Ohio) topped Patrick Colaclu (Lincolnwood, Ill.) and Andrew Mihulet (Lincolnwood, Ill.), 21-15, 21-17, in the boys’ U14 championship match. Finishing in third was Declan Kennedy (Oak Lawn, Ill.) and Spencer Scott (Oak Lawn, Ill.).
In the boys’ U16 division, Peter Hutz (White Fish Bay, Wis.) and Trevor Novotny (White Fish Bay, Wis.) defeated Tim Heyman (New Berlin, Wis.) and Alex Jelacic (Waukesha, Wis.), 21-18. Trey Biggs (Hebron, Ind.) and John Pauer (Hebron, Ind.) finished in third.
Nolan Albrecht (Naperville, Ill.) and Eric Luhrsen (Wheaton, Ill.) defeated Greg Margum (Mokena, Ill.) and Andrew Dicksen (Lockport, Ill.) for the boys’ U18 title. Coming in third was Kevin Morrison (Oak Forest, Ill.) and Dan Weishar (Midlothian, Ill.) who shared the place with Kyle Caldwell (Streamwood, Ill.) and Matt Schmiel (Elk Grove Village, Ill.).
Finishing in first of the boys’ U20 division was Amar Kahlon (St. Peters, Mo.) and Tom Platter (St. Charles, Mo.) after they defeated Blair Meeker (Kenosha, Wis.) and Brett Kaczmarek (Kenosha, Wis.), 21-18, 21-15. Gierut Szymon (Poland) and Scott Siwicki (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) finished in third.
