BEIJING, China (Aug. 16, 2008) – With her recovery progressing, Mrs. Barbara Bachman has departed Beijing via air ambulance and been transferred to a hospital in the United States. All three of her daughters, including Elisabeth McCutcheon, have also returned to the United States. Son-in-law Hugh McCutcheon, head coach of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Men’s Volleyball Team, will remain in Beijing and return to his coaching duties beginning today.
“We are indebted to the physicians and caregivers at Peking Union Medical College Hospital who have done such a wonderful job providing Barbara with the medical care she needed,” Hugh McCutcheon said. “We are also extremely appreciative of the support we have received from people here in Beijing, the United States, New Zealand and around the world. The prayers and support have been a source of strength for our family during this difficult time.”Rate It

Arohanui Hugh, Elisabeth, Barbara and family. Many prayers have been offered here in Aotearoa for you all. Nothing but love, respect, empathy and compassion from all corners of small country in recognition of your loss. Such great news to hear of Barbara's progress and return to home with the daughters and extended family. There is still a long road ahead with many uncertainties...there is still pain and sheer bewilderment at the whole illogical ir-reality of it all...but hold on Hugh and Elisabeth and Barbara and family...there is much work for you all still to do on god's great earth...hold on because theres no doubt that Todd is right there with you all in spirit willing you all to hold tight...get to work...move forward...survive this and live, love and learn... Though there is no doubt we wish nothing but the glory of gold for your efforts at China and thats even all the way from here in Aotearoa - but the true glory and triumph is yours to enjoy in the days yet to come with the life you have yet to enjoy and the love yet to be blessed by and the learning...everyday the learning...and through it all Todd will be with you all as we are with you all now in spirit, in love in total unconditional aroha. may healing be yours may peace be with you all may love be your reward and your life to come may it be glorious unto the memory of family lost and family yet to be born. tihei mauri ora
