Just hours after a stunning Olympic Games Opening Ceremony and hours before the first serve of the 2008 Olympic Games, the USA Volleyball and USOC community were saddened with the tragic murder of Todd Bachman and serious injuries suffered to his wife Barbara. The Bachmans, in-laws of U.S. Men's National Team Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon and parents of 2004 Olympian Elisabeth Bachman, were visiting a Beijing tourist site when the incident occurred. MORE

Two men’s and two women’s beach volleyball teams are representing the United States at the FIVB Under-21 World Championships on Sept. 3-7 in Brighton, England. The U.S. women’s team of Jane Croson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) and Summer Ross (Carlsbad, Calif.) and the men’s team of Jeremy Casebeer (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Andy McGuire (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) will compete in the main draw. The women’s team of Julia and Lydia Mailander (Reno, Nev.) and the men’s team of Grant Hilling (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Chase Ross (Carlsbad, Calif.) will have to make it through a qualifying bracket to advance to the main draw.
