MAY-TREANOR, WALSH REPEAT AS OLYMPIC BEACH CHAMPIONS

Misty May-Treanor (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Kerri Walsh (Saratoga, Calif.) won their second consecutive gold medal in women's Olympic beach volleyball by defeating top-ranked Tian Jia and Wang Jie of China 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) on Aug. 21 at the Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Grounds in Beijing. MORE

Phil Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Todd Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.) defeated Brazil's Marcio Araujo and Fábio Luiz Magalhães, 23-21, 17-21, 15-4 on Aug. 22 at Beijing's Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Grounds to claim the 2008 Olympic Games Men's Beach Volleyball competition. MORE

UPDATE ON BARBARA BACHMAN, TODD BACHMAN FUNERAL

Just hours after a stunning Olympic Games Opening Ceremony and hours before the first serve of the 2008 Olympic Games, the USA Volleyball and USOC community were saddened with the tragic murder of Todd Bachman and serious injuries suffered to his wife Barbara. The Bachmans, in-laws of U.S. Men's National Team Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon and parents of 2004 Olympian Elisabeth Bachman, were visiting a Beijing tourist site when the incident occurred. MORE

U.S. WOMEN'S SITTING TEAM GEARS UP FOR PARALYMPICS

The U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team, ranked third in the world, will be looking to improve on its 2004 bronze medal finish when it begins play at the 2008 Paralympic Games, starting Saturday, Sept. 6 in Beijing. The U.S. Sitting Women’s Team is making its second appearance in the Paralympics. MORE

U.S. BOYS' YOUTH NATIONAL TEAM WINS NORCECA TITLE

The U.S. Boys' Youth National Team defeated Puerto Rico 25-19, 25-21, 25-22 in the gold-medal match of the NORCECA Boys’ Youth Continental Championship Friday on Aug. 8. The team also qualified for the 2009 FIVB Boys’ Youth World Championship. MORE

U.S. OPEN OF BEACH VOLLEYBALL SET FOR SEPT. 26-28

Just because Labor Day is past doesn’t mean summer is over. There is still more beach volleyball to be played. USA Volleyball and the Elevation Group have announced that registration is open for the 2008 U.S. Open of Beach Volleyball, presented by Corona Extra, on Sept. 26-28 on East Beach in Santa Barbara, Calif. FOUR USA TEAMS TO COMPETE AT FIVB U-21 BEACH WORLDS

Two men’s and two women’s beach volleyball teams are representing the United States at the FIVB Under-21 World Championships on Sept. 3-7 in Brighton, England. The U.S. women’s team of Jane Croson (Los Alamitos, Calif.) and Summer Ross (Carlsbad, Calif.) and the men’s team of Jeremy Casebeer (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Andy McGuire (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) will compete in the main draw. The women’s team of Julia and Lydia Mailander (Reno, Nev.) and the men’s team of Grant Hilling (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Chase Ross (Carlsbad, Calif.) will have to make it through a qualifying bracket to advance to the main draw. The American Volleyball Coaches Association annual convention will take place Dec. 17-21 in Omaha, Neb. For details on how to register, click here...U.S. coaches Erikka Gulbranson and Ashley Dean took part in a Sports Envoy program hosted by the U.S. Consulate in Recife, Brazil, Aug. 10-16. They gave clinics for public and private schools, universities and a Brazilian professional league. In total, they interacted with over 1,200 young people aged 13-19. For details, click here...Maccabiah Games is seeking Jewish volleyball coaches and athletes to represent the United States at the 18th Maccabiah Games held July 13-23, 2009, in Israel. USA will be sending open teams for men and women, indoor and beach, as well as an indoor junior girls team.
