Accreditation Rules
USAV CAP Accreditation Rules
The USAV CAP Accreditation Rules changed in 2004. At that time it was decided that USAV CAP coaches will also need to pass a background check in order to accredit or to re-new their accreditation at any Level.
The CAP Level I & II courses, and the associated accreditation "rules" also changed again in 2004 following a re-design of the program. These requirements reverted to the original requirement of re-certification at the same level or move up every 4 years (each "Quad"), which was the requirement prior to the year 2001.
The newest info on renewing your certification each Quad (4 years)
Please note that if your certification has lapsed, depending on the number of years lapsed, your choices from the lists below will diminish.
Level I re-certification (if certification is still current):
- Take 4 approved Modules in 4 years (at DAY 2 of a CAP Course or any approved Modules), or
- Attend another USAV CAP I course CORE session (DAY 1), or
- Attend another FULL USAV CAP I course (DAY 1 & 2), or
- Attend a CAP Level II course & work on fulfilling those requirements within 12 months
Level II re-certification (if certification is still current):
- Take 5 approved Modules in 4 years, or
- Attend another USAV CAP II course CORE session (DAY 1), or
- Attend another FULL USAV CAP II course (DAY 1 & 2), or
- Attend a CAP Level III course & work on fulfilling those requirements within 12 months
Level III re-certification (if certification is still current):
- Take 6 approved Modules in 4 years, or
- Attend another USAV CAP Level III Course
- When it becomes available, attend a USAV CAP Level IV Course/National Seminar
- Host a USAV National Education weekend (CAP Course/Clinic)
- Volunteer at a USAV National Education event or at the Office.
This promotes the USAV CAP concept of "continuing education" for our coaches. Modules will be available at every USAV CAP course site, at some USAV High Performance (HP) coaching clinic sites and at least one "Modules-only" weekend a year here in Colorado Springs at the Olympic Training Center (COS-OTC), as well as selected approved outside coaching clinics (including the annual AVCA Convention).
So if re-certifying any prior CAP certification in 2004, your CAP certificate will be good until the same date in 2008. At that time you will need to re-new under the new requirements. Anyone accrediting for the first time in 2004 or beyond will have to play by the new rules.
In addition, as of 2004, coaches will also need to pass a background check in order to accredit or to re-new their accreditation at any Level.
ANYONE who is associated with a USAV Junior Club Team or program will undergo the background check through their USAV Region office.
Those NOT affiliated with a USAV Jr. club team will also need to go through the background check prior to being CAP accredited or re-accredited at any level (requires an additional $25 processing fee).
