Indoor HP Program Descriptions
Senior
Programs for athletes older than Junior. For 2009 this would apply to men born in 1988 or before and to women born in 1989 or before.
World Games Team/A2 - USAV plans to enter a Men's and Women's team in the 2009 World University Games. The Games are slated to take place in Belgrade, Serbia from approximately June 30 through July 12. The tentative plan is to have the teams go to Belgrade 4-5 days early and train instead of training in the US. The teams will be selected by the National Team staff. The Women's staff will be expected to coach in the Women's A2 program in Minneapolis from May 18-27 including coaching an A2 team in the US Open Championships.
Tryouts - Currently, only tryout for Women's Senior programs is scheduled to take place at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs from February 20-22. There is a possibility of USAV offering open Men's tryouts for senior athletes in late April or early May in conjunction with the 3 NCAA I/II Conference Championships or at the Men's Final Four.
Junior
For 2009 this would apply to men born in 1989 and 1990 and to women born in 1990 and 1991.
National Team/A1 - The USA Women's and Men's Junior National Teams will compete in their respective World Championships during the summer of 2009. The Men will compete in India from approximately July 8-19 with training beginning in late June. The Women's JNT will compete in Mexico from approximately July 23-August 1 with training beginning in mid to early July. Coaches are expected to attend at least 3 tryouts for WJNT coaches and at least 2 tryouts for MJNT coaches.
A2 Team/Camp - There will be no A2 program for men's junior athletes in 2009. The tentative plan by USAV is to offer 2 separate A2 experiences for Women's A2 athletes. One involves a team traveling to Europe in late July for 10-14 days. Coaches of this team will have all expenses paid, but will not receive an honorarium. A second A2 group will train and participate in the US High Performance Championships in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Training begins July 16. The HP Championships runs from July 22-26. Coaches of these two Women's A2 programs are expected to attend at least 2 tryouts.
Tryouts - Offered primarily in January and February for the MJNT age athletes and in March and April for WJNT age athletes. In most cases, coaches will not be paid any expense money to work a tryout and will not be paid an honorarium.
Youth
For 2009 this would apply to boys born in 1991 and 1992 and to girls born in 1992 and 1993.
National Team/A1 - The USA Girls' and Boys' Youth National Teams will compete in their respective World Championships during the summer of 2009. The Boys will compete in Italy from approximately August 19-30 with training beginning in early August. The Girls will compete in a country and during dates yet to be announced by the FIVB. Coaches are expected to attend at least 3 tryouts for GYNT coaches and at least 2 tryouts for BYNT coaches.
A2 Team/Camp - The Youth A2 programs for both the boys and girls will train and participate in the US High Performance Championships in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Training begins July 16. The HP Championships runs from July 22-26. Coaches are expected to attend at least 2 tryouts. USAV is also giving strong consideration to inviting a Girls' Youth A2 team to travel to South America for training and a series of competitions in mid-late July. More details as they become available.
Continental Team/Camp - A new program offered by USAV beginning in 2009, the Continental Team program involves both boys' and girls' teams that will participate in the HP Championships, but will have a reduced training schedule as compared to the A2 programs. Athletes for these teams will be exclusively from USAV Regions that do not field teams in this age group and gender for the HP Championships. Head coaches will be assigned by USAV from its Coaches Pipeline and assistant coaches will be assigned by recommendations from Regions. Coaches are expected to attend at least 2 tryouts and work at least one other camp.
A3 Camp - Camps for both boys' and girls' geographically spread across the country. These camps are 5 days in duration and invitation only to athletes that attended USAV tryouts. Coach to camper ratio is approximately 1:8. Coaches are expected to work at least 1 tryout.
Training Camp - Camps for only girls' geographically spread across the country. These camps are 5 days in duration and invitation only to athletes that attended USAV tryouts. Coach to camper ratio is approximately 1:9. These camps are administrated by "American Athlete, Inc." in cooperation with USAV. Coaches are expected to work at least 1 tryout.
Development Camp - Camps for only girls' geographically spread across the country. These camps are 5 days in duration and are open to athletes that attended tryout and to those that did not. Coach to camper ratio is approximately 1:9. These camps are administrated by "American Athlete, Inc." in cooperation with USAV. Coaches are expected to work at least 1 tryout.
