International Development Qualifiers
IDQ DETAILS * IDQ REGISTRATION * NORCECA BEACH TOUR * NORCECA REGISTRATION
USA Volleyball has announced that it will host two International Development Qualifier (IDQ) tournaments to identify elite beach athletes for entry into select NORCECA (North and Central American and Caribbean) Beach Volleyball Tour international competitions. Teams that finish IDQ events in first or second place will have the opportunity to represent the United States in specific NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour international events.
“The NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour is stepping up its commitment to the beach game, and it is imperative for USAV to do the same within NORCECA,” said Ali Wood Lamberson, USA Volleyball’s director of beach programs. “Our goal is to identify U.S. athletes with elite international potential and to use the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour as preparation for the FIVB World Tour.”
IDQ events are open to all U.S. athletes who hold a U.S. passport or U.S. citizenship and have not represented another country in the last two years or are not currently registered as a member of another country’s volleyball federation.
The first IDQ will take place March 24-25 at the USA Volleyball Beach Center at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. The second IDQ on June 16-17 is scheduled to be held in Los Angeles County, with the specific beach to be announced in the coming weeks.
The entry fee for each event is $60/athlete and all participants must have a current USAV membership. The Molten NORCECA ball will be used. The main draw is limited to 40 total teams for the IDQ event in Chula Vista, with a single-elimination qualifier the Friday afternoon preceding, if necessary, deciding the last four main draw teams. Teams in the qualifier will be notified Tuesday before the event.
Main draw competition format will be full match pool play with a single-elimination playoff.
