U.S. Coaches' Analysis of DataVolley/DataProject

Bill Hamiter
U.S. Women's Sitting Team Women's Head Coach/U.S. Sitting Team Program Director

Data Project is a powerful scouting tool. We stat opposing teams so we can find tendencies of a team and players. Finding out how they score their points, what rotations are strong and which ones are weaker, what areas of the court do players like to attack, what hitters get the highest percentage of sets, etc. are very important to us. That information is used to help us tactically in all aspects of the game: serve receive, serving, blocking, defense and attacking. We also link the stats to Data Video so we can show our athletes the tendencies and the tactics we will use. Our staff use Data Video to watch opposing teams so we can find tendencies, tactics, weaknesses and strengths that may not be reflected in the stats. All of this information helps us in creating our match plan and in our match preparation.

We use Data Project during matches so we can tell where we need make improvements and focus more as a team. We have goals for all of our skills Data Project helps us monitor our execution during matches. We also use Data Project during matches to monitor the opposing team’s execution. Who are their hot hitters? What are the shots they are hitting most of the time? How and where are they scoring their points?

We use Data Project and Data Video to help us analyze the strengths & weaknesses of our team and players so we can enhance and improve them. Our players are able to view their ball contacts so they receive visual feedback on what they need to enhance or improve on. Both of these programs are used during our practices so we can monitor how we are doing in making the necessary changes. Data Video makes it very easy to break down video and get the visual information that our players and staff desire.
