Participating athletes must possess a working knowledge of offensive/defensive systems and terminology consistent with that of a typical mid-to high level collegiate program. Participating athletes must also possess a level of athleticism, fitness and technical ability consistent with that of a high level collegiate player. Questions regarding this should be directed to Tom Pingel. Participants unable to meet these requirements will not be accepted for the tryout or may be removed from further tryout participation. No refunds will be offered in the latter case.
USA WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM PROGRAMS:
Throughout the tryout process, USA Volleyball will be identifying prospective athletes for the following programs:
USA Women's Volleyball National Team Program – Athletes that have concluded their college eligibility and who wish to be invited to be a member of the USA Women’s Volleyball National Team on a full-time basis. This program could begin as early as the spring of 2012, or when an athlete’s scholastic or professional club season has concluded.
Also considered for training with this group will be athletes that have remaining college eligibility. Their participation will begin in mid-May or when their scholastic calendar ends for 2012.
USA Women's Senior A2 Teams – Athletes in college and with collegiate eligibility remaining for the 2012 collegiate season not selected to join the USA Women’s National Team may be invited to participate with the USA Senior A2 program. This program is scheduled to take place in Columbus, OH from Tuesday, June 26 through Thursday, July 5. A projected 48 athletes will be invited to participate in the program, which will include training and competing at the USA Girls’ Junior National Championships (GJNC) from July 1-4. Participants will be responsible for payment of a participation fee of $300 to help offset the necessary expenses during the tournament (room, meals, entry fee, etc.). Participants will also be responsible for their travel to/from Columbus. USAV will cover all additional expenses pertaining to participation at the GJNC, as well as all expenses pertaining to the training camp from June 27 through June 30, directly preceding participation in the Championships.
The format of the Women’s A2 (WA2) Program will be different in 2012 than in past years. Instead of the A2 teams competing in the Women’s Open Division of the US Championships, the WA2 will compete in its own 4-team tournament at the GJNC. We feel this will allow all eligible athletes from across the country to participate and increase the level of the experience for the athletes and USAV.
