Major changes hit the men's volleyball college roundup as we finish off the second full week of March. Down goes former No. 1 GCU, who had its undefeated streak snapped with two ranked losses in the Outrigger Invitational. This result moves the Rainbow Warriors up to the No. 1 slot in this week’s rankings.
No change to the roundup this week as the top-5 stays the same across both divisions. Grand Canyon is on top for another week in DI/II, earning 21 AVCA votes to remain No. 1. In DIII, Wentworth earned 20 votes to stay ahead of Stevens and Southern Virginia.
Welcome to March and the first roundup of the new month where we fittingly also have a new No. 1. The 13-0 GCU Lopes are atop the rankings, unseating Long Beach State who held the title since the beginning of February. DIII has a shift as well at the bottom of the list. Loras flip-flops with Cal Lutheran, bumping them out of the top-5 to start the month.
This week, the roundup welcomes back a familiar name to the top-5 in DI/II. UC Irvine jumps two spots from their previous ranking to take the No. 5 position away from Stanford. In DIII, it’s the third straight week that the list has remained stagnant, meaning it’s still Wentworth leading the pack over Stevens, Southern Virginia, Springfield, and Cal Lutheran. For the first time in 2024, the roundup sees no changes from the previous week. Despite suffering its first loss of the season, Long Beach State earns 17 votes by AVCA to stay at No. 1 ahead of undefeated Grand Canyon. Meanwhile in DIII, Wentworth has secured 12 wins to start the year and holds a firm grip on the top spot. The Buckeyes defeated the defending champion Bruins and No. 13 USC at the First Point Challenge in Austin, Texas last week to vault into the number one spot in the rankings. However, The Buckeyes suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of No. 9 Penn State on Thursday night.

USA Volleyball announces the 21 athletes selected for the 2023 U.S. Men’s Collegiate National Team (MCNT)
The Final Four are set in the NCAA DI/II Men’s Volleyball Tournament with semifinal matches set for Thursday and the championship round May 6 at 2 p.m. PDT. The Division III Tournament has been decided as the Stevens Ducks are your 2023 champions.
League championships are now in the rearview mirror across all divisions as the top teams in NCAA men’s volleyball now shift their full attention toward the tournament. The NCAA DI/II bracket has been announced, with all matches hosted by George Mason in Fairfax, Va. The Division III Championship is in the semifinal round and currently being hosted by Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md.
It’s officially the postseason for all teams in the college roundup. With the first edition since the conclusion of the regular season, the DI/II division stays intact with Hawaii leading the charge and UC Irvine at No. 5. In the DIII division, Vassar still holds possession of the number No. 1 slot in the rankings and only has one loss on the season.
This week, as the regular season wraps up and the postseason begins, this week’s college roundup remains unchanged in the DI/II division. However, the DIII division has seen a major shift at the top of the list.
This week, UC Irvine has taken control of the final spot in the Division I/II rankings, dropping Grand Canyon out of the top five. In Division III, Stevens maintains the top position and the remaining four teams are unchanged for yet another week.
