COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 12, 2023) – Four U.S. men’s beach teams and two U.S. women’s teams are scheduled to begin play on Thursday in the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge event on April 13-16 in Saquarema, Brazil.

On the men’s side Miles Partain/Andy Benesh, Chase Budinger/Miles Evans and Taylor Crabb/Taylor Sander will play in the qualifier.

Trevor Crabb/Theo Brunner will start in the main draw.

For the women, Corinne Quiggle/Sarah Schermerhorn will start in the qualifier. Kelley Kolinske/Hailey Harward are in the main draw.

AVP NEW ORLEANS

Closer to home, several U.S. beach teams will compete April 13-16 at the AVP New Orleans.

Kelly Cheng/Sara Hughes are the women’s top seeds and Tri Bourne/Chaim Schalk are tops for the men.

ITAPEMA CHALLENGE

Terese Cannon/Sarah Sponcil won their third FIVB medal as a team on April 9 when they took third at the Itapema Challenge event in Brazil.

In the third-place match, Cannon/Sponcil beat Esmee Bobner/Zoe Verge-Depre of Switzerland 2-0 (21-16, 21-17). In the semifinal, Cannon/Sponcil battled but fell to the eventual winners, Chen Xue / Xinyi Xia of China, 2-1 (21-15, 18-21, 21-19).

“We love coming to Brazil to play,” Cannon told Volleyball World. “It’s so fun, they have the best fans in the world. Thank you for watching and cheering, it’s amazing.”

Among other U.S. women’s teams in Itapema, Julia Scoles/Betsi Flint tied for fifth and Kolinske/Harward tied for ninth. Savvy Simo/Toni Rodriguez lost in the Round of 18 and tied for 17th. Allie Wheeler/Zana Muno did not advance from qualifying.

On the men’s side, Schalk/Bourne and Partain/Benesh each tied for fifth place. Crabb/Sander tied for 19th. Evan Cory/Logan Webber and Budinger/Evans did not advance from the qualifier.

TAHITI FUTURES

The Beach Pro Tour event in Tahiti was for men only. Jake Urrutia/Ian Satterfield finished just off the podium in fourth. In the semifinals, they lost to the eventual winners, Tiziano Andreatta/Andrea Abbiati of Italy, 2-0 (21-19, 25-23). In the bronze medal match, they fell to Germany’s Simon Kulzer/Bennet Poniewaz, 2-0 (21-16, 21-14).

Benjamin Vaught/Mark Bucknam and Adam Roberts/Martin Lorenz each finished tied for ninth. Charles Siragusa/Jordan Hoppe did not advance from qualifying.
