Trevor Crabb and Tri Bourne

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 14, 2021) – The U.S. beach team of Tri Bourne and Trevor Crabb will begin the FIVB World Tour four-star event in Cancun in the qualifier bracket rather than in the country quota.

The change comes because the U.S. team of Chase Budinger/Casey Patterson dropped out of the event.

With 2,000 FIVB entry points, Bourne/Crabb should be seeded first in the qualifier bracket. If any teams should drop out of the main draw, Bourne/Crabb would move up.

Bourne/Crabb along with U.S. teams Taylor Crabb/Jake Gibb and Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena are battling for two men’s berths at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The U.S. men’s teams of Theo Brunner/Chaim Schalk and Miles Evans/Bill Kolinske will play each other in the country quota on Thursday for the final U.S. slot in the qualifier.

On the women’s side, Kelly Claes/Sarah Sponcil, Sara Hughes/Emily Day and Kelly Reeves/Terese Cannon will play country quota matches on Thursday for one spot in the qualifier.

Claes/Sponcil are battling Brooke Sweat/Kerri Walsh Jennings and Kelley Kolinske/Emily Stockman for the second U.S. women’s berth to the Tokyo Olympics. Alix Klineman/April Ross have already qualified mathematically for Tokyo.
