COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 29, 2021) – USA Volleyball will host the 2022 USAV Girls Junior National Championship (GJNC) on June 23-July 4 in Indianapolis, Ind.
The 42nd annual edition of the GJNC, for players ages 11-17, will be a 12-day event held at the Indianapolis Convention Center.
“USA Volleyball is excited to bring the Girls Junior National Championship back to Indianapolis in 2022,” said USAV Events Director Kristy Cox. “Indy has proven to be a great host and partner for this event.”
The bump to 12 days (currently the event takes 10 days) will allow for more space in the convention center as the number of teams competing grows. USAV is expecting more than 1,600 teams in Indy with next year’s growth and the introduction of two new divisions.
Indianapolis previously hosted the GJNC in 2016 and 2019.
“Indy is proud USA Volleyball is bouncing back to the city with its Girls Junior National Championship, an event utilizing the entire Indiana Convention Center,” said Chris Gahl with Visit Indy. “Our entire tourism community looks forward to welcoming the 60,000 players, coaches, and family members, an event slated to generate $96 million in economic impact while helping keep Indy’s tourism industry healthy.”
The GJNC economic impact on the host city can be significant. The 2021 GJNC is being held in Las Vegas this week with more than 1,300 team registered. That means more than 15,000 players and an estimated 60,000 spectators visiting the city for volleyball over 10 days.
Among the U.S. Women’s National Team players who have competed at Girls Junior Nationals are 2020 Olympians Micha Hancock, Chiaka Ogbogu and Justine Wong-Orantes.
