Beach Update: U.S. Earns Hardware from 2024 NORCECA Punta Cana
This week’s beach update recaps news from NORCECA Tour events and the AVP league. Looking ahead, several U.S. pairs are in Brazil for an Elite 16 this week.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 15, 2024) – International beach volleyball will return to the United States on December 5-8 when the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour (BPT) brings a Futures event to Pompano Beach, Fla.
The BPT Futures event is FIVB-sanctioned and will feature emerging beach volleyball talents and seasoned players from the United States and around the world competing for points, prize money and prestige. The qualifying rounds will be Dec. 5, followed by the main draw on Dec. 6-8.
The Futures event will be part of the weekend’s Pompano Beach Volleyball Festival, hosted by the Florida Region of USA Volleyball. The Festival will also include a Pan American Zone Beach ParaVolley event and a Beach National Qualifier for 10U-18U junior players, both on Dec. 7-8.
“Pompano Beach is the perfect event destination, featuring fantastic restaurants, convenient lodging, and ample parking – all just a short stroll from the beautiful competition site at the Pompano Beach Pier,” said Steve Bishop, executive director and president for the Florida Region of USA Volleyball. “We’re proud to host the only FIVB/Volleyball World beach competition in the U.S., as well as the only WPV Beach ParaVolley training and competition, in partnership with USA Volleyball and we can’t wait to welcome the world to our beautiful state.”
“Thank you to the Florida Region of USA Volleyball for hosting the Pompano Beach Volleyball Festival,” said USA Volleyball President and CEO John Speraw. “We are looking forward to the excitement of seeing U.S. beach and beach ParaVolley athletes compete against teams from around the world. It is also important for our junior beach athletes to get a glimpse of the sport at its highest level.”
Beach ParaVolley is an adaptive version of beach volleyball featuring three athletes per side. The event in Pompano Beach will include both disabled and able-bodied athletes.
The Beach National Qualifier will give junior athletes the opportunity to secure a bid to the “Open” division at the USAV Beach National Championship in July 2025.
