PERSONAL: Born Kyle Elton Russell on Aug. 25, 1993 in Sacramento, Calif. … Parents are Craig and Lisa Russell… Kyle has one older sister, Jamie who is the middle hitter at the University of Alaska, Anchorage (2009-2011)… Kyle is the captain of his high school volleyball team and was named to Volleyball Magazine’s “Top 25 Underclassman to Watch”… Hobbies include listening to music, playing and watching sports, watching surfing and hanging out with friends… Favorite food is bacon cheeseburger… Favorite music categories include ska, reggae, rock and rap… Favorite band is Dispatch… Favorite athlete is Kobe Bryant and favorite team is the San Francisco Giants… Favorite movie is Lord of Dogtown… Kyle admires his parents for always being there for him and supporting him in everything he does and his sister, Jamie, for being a great mentor and the reason he started playing volleyball… Kyle says that he has too many happy moments to pick just one.

USA VOLLEYBALL HIGHLIGHTS: 2011 – Selected to the U.S. Boys’ Youth National Training Team. 2010 – Selected as an alternate to the Boys’ Youth National Team… Attended USAV A2 Camp (Blue Team) in Wisconsin Dells.  2009 – Captain of the Boys’ Select A1 National Camp (Gold Team) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS: 2011 – Selected to the Sacramento Optimist All-Star Team… Named to All-Tournament Team at Bellarmine Invitational where his team placed first in silver… Named Del Oro High School Player-of-the Week (2/27-3/5). 2010 – Listed in Volleyball Magazine’s “Top 25 Underclassmen to Watch”… captain and co-MVP of Del Oro Varsity team… Selected to First Team All-League. 2009 – Only sophomore named to First Team All-League.

CLUB/PREP HIGHLIGHTS: 2011 - Helped team earn second-place Junior National Qualifying finish, resulting in a bid to the Boys’ Junior National Championships. 2010 – First place finish in NCVA 18U Power League… 2009 – Helped 17U team to a No. 1 rank in the NCVA… Finished 7th at the NCVA 18U Power League… Finished 27th at USA Boys’ Volleyball Junior Olympics in Atlanta.
