MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (June 28, 2017) – Tstreet 14-Carson captured the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships 14 Open Division as the five 14-and-Under age groups concluded Wednesday at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The GJNC continues through July 4.

Along with Tstreet 14-Carson, other winners included A5 Mizuno 14-2 Karen in the 14 National Division, Mizuno Long Beach 14 Rockstar M in the 14 USA Division, Tampa Elite U14 Columbia (Florida) in the 14 American Division and Saddleback Valley Volleyball Club 14 Lisa in the 14 Patriot Division.

Sport Court is the official athletic flooring for the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships.

14 Open
Tstreet 14-Carson (Southern California) defeated TAV 14 Black (North Texas) 25-18, 25-16 in the 14 Open gold-medal match. Tstreet 14-Carson finished the tournament with a 9-1 record, which included avenging its only loss of the tournament. OT 14 S. Rox Red (Florida) defeated the 14 Open Division champions in the final pool play match, but Tstreet 14-Carson came back to win the semifinal rematch 25-20, 27-25 after easing past ARVC 14N1 Adidas (Sun Country) 25-9, 25-19 in the quarterfinal round. TAV 14 Black, which finished the tournament with a 9-3 record, reached the championship match by defeating Sunshine 14 Westside (Southern California) 20-25, 25-21, 15-9 in the quarterfinals and Rockwood Thunder 14 Mizuno (Gateway) 25-14, 25-17 in the semifinals. Both Rockwood Thunder 14 Mizuno and OT 14 S. Rox Red finished the tournament with bronze medals.

“It was crazy,” Tstreet 14-Carson’s Jessica Smith said. “We have been dreaming about this since the beginning of the season. We always wanted it and finally got it. We have been improving as we gone in the season.”

Smith was confident of her favorite moment of the tournament. “Winning the tournament,” she said, though she added a second favorite moment. “In pool play we lost to a team called OT, but we beat them in the semifinals so we got revenge.”

14 National
A5 Mizuno 14-2 Karen (Southern) edged out A5 South 14-1 Trina (Southern) 25-23, 22-25, 15-13 to win the 14 National Division championship. A5 Mizuno 14-2 Karen ended the tournament with a 10-1 record and recovered from a loss to open the second round. They earned a spot in the title match by sweeping Nebraska One 14 Shockerz (Great Plains) 25-18, 25-13 in the quarterfinals and AZ Sky 14 Gold Allegiance (Arizona) 25-19, 25-14 in the semifinals. A5 South 14-1 Trina completed the tournament with an 8-3 record and came from a tournament opening loss and a 3-2 record in the first round pool play to capture the silver medal. They edged Vegas Aces 14 Black (Southern California) 18-25, 25-20, 15-8 in the quarterfinals and Wildfire 14 Nike Albert (Florida) 25-22, 24-26, 15-12 in the semifinals. Wildfire 14 Nike Albert and AZ Sky 14 Gold Allegiance earned the bronze medals in the 14 National Division.

14 USA
Mizuno Long Beach 14 Rockstar M (Southern California) secured the 14 USA Division title by holding off PVA 14 Elite (Heart of America) 25-21, 20-25, 15-6 in the gold-medal match. Long Beach 14 Rockstar, which ended the tournament 10-1 with its only loss coming the first round of pool play, advanced to the championship match by defeating Instinct 14 Leopards Wild GN (North Texas) 25-11, 25-15 in the quarterfinals, then rallied to defeat Instinct Leopards Wild GP (North Texas) 16-25, 25-15, 15-8 in the semifinals. PVA 14 Elite, which was undefeated prior to the championship match and finished with a 10-1 record, earned its ticket to the finals by beating PSVBA 14-Jordyn (Puget Sound) 19-25, 25-15, 15-12 in the quarterfinals before edging Mintonette Sports – m.42O (Ohio Valley) 21-25, 25-23, 15-9. By reaching the semifinals, Instinct 14 Leopards Wild GP and Mintonette Sports – m.42O earned bronze medals.

14 American
Tampa Elite U14 Columbia (Florida) captured the 14 American Division title after sweeping Forza1 North 14 UA (Southern California) 25-20, 25-17 in the title match. Tampa Elite U14 finished the tournament with a 10-2 record and recovered from a 2-2 start in pool play by winning its final eight matches. Tampa Elite U14 reached the title match by stopping hometown favorites Northern Lights 14-2 (North Country) 15-25, 25-22, 15-12 in the quarterfinals and HJV 14 Elite (Lone Star) 25-23, 23-25, 15-8 in the semifinals. Forza1 North 14, which ended the tournament with an 10-2 record, advanced to the championship match by defeating Vision 14 Gold (Northern California) 23-25, 25-13, 15-13 in the quarterfinals and Texas Pistols 14 Black (North Texas) 25-23, 19-25, 15-13 in the semifinals. HJV 14 Elite and Texas Pistols 14 Black earned the bronze medals by advancing to the semifinals.

14 Patriot
Saddleback Valley Volleyball Club 14 Lisa (Southern California) claimed the 14 Patriot Division title after beating Rancho Valley 14 Premier (Southern California) 25-18, 25-21 in the gold-medal match. Saddleback Valley VBC went undefeated in 11 tournament matches and dropping just two sets along the way. The winners reached the title match by edging Palm Beach Juniors 14 Elite (Florida) 25-21, 21-25, 15-13 in the quarterfinals followed by a sweep over Sunshine 14 Elite (Southern California) 25-17, 25-23 in the semifinals. Rancho Valley 14 Premier, which was 10-3 in the tournament with two of the losses coming at the hands of the eventual winners, topped TAV Houston 14 Black 25-21, 18-25, 15-12 in the quarterfinals and beat Forza1 14 UA (Southern California) 25-23, 25-19 in the semifinals. Bronze medalists, by virtue of reaching the semifinals, are Forza1 14 UA and Sunshine 14 Elite
