COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 14, 2020) – Brig Beatie (Clovis, California), Christina Fiebich (Saint Paul, Minnesota) and Pati Rolf (Colorado Springs, Colorado) are among the top volleyball officials in the United States, and their hard work has earned them positions at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.
Brig Beatie
Beatie has been appointed as a beach volleyball referee at the 2020 Olympic Games. Last year he earned appointment as the first referee in the 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship gold-medal match. Beatie has earned gold-medal match first referee responsibilities in five total FIVB World Tour events since 2017.
Beatie, an FIVB international beach referee since 2009, started to officiate high school matches in 1993. He earned his USA Volleyball national beach referee patch in 1997 followed by his USAV national indoor referee patch in 2000. Beatie became a Professional Association of Volleyball Officials (PAVO) national referee and AVP beach volleyball referee in 2001.
Christina Fiebich
Fiebich has been appointed as a sitting volleyball referee at the 2020 Paralympic Games. She has been officiating sitting volleyball since 2013 and earned her World ParaVolley international referee patch in 2016. Fiebich has also been appointed to referee the Men’s Paralympic Final Qualification Tournament this March in Edmond, Oklahoma, as well as the U.S. Women’s Sitting Team exhibition matches against Brazil and Russia at Colorado Crossroads in Denver next month. She was selected to referee at the past two Parapan American Games in Peru and Canada.
Fiebich earned her USA Volleyball national referee and scorer patches in 2011. She became a PAVO referee in 2012. Fiebich earned her USAV zonal beach referee patch in 2014. She has officiated at the USA Volleyball Open National Championships seven of the last eight years, along with refereeing at either the USA Volleyball Girls or Boys Junior National Championships in eight of nine years from 2009 to 2017. Fiebich currently officiates collegiate matches in the Big Ten, Big East, Missouri Valley, Big Sky and Summit League.
Pati Rolf
Rolf, who serves as USA Volleyball’s director of officials development and has been an FIVB international referee since 1999, has been appointed for the second time as an Olympic Games indoor volleyball referee and will retire from officiating at the conclusion of the 2020 Tokyo Games. She has been a pioneer in the international realm as one of just a handful of females who have officiated the top level of the game on both the women’s and men’s side. Rolf officiated the 2016 Olympic Games women’s indoor gold-medal match with Spain’s Susana Marie Rodriguez to become the first all-woman officiating crew in an Olympic final.
Rolf’s international officiating career has included several other “Triple Crown” events. She officiated in two FIVB World Championships (2014 and 2018) and two FIVB World Cups (2015 and 2019). Rolf has been a referee during 15 rounds of the FIVB World Grand Prix/Volleyball Nations League, including the VNL Finals in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She was appointed to referee at three FIVB Club World Championships (2015, 2017, 2018). Further, Rolf has experience officiating at four FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship events.
Rolf is a USA Volleyball national official and referees at every level of volleyball in the United States from grade school to high school/club to the NCAA matches. She officiates matches in the Big XII, MIVA, Horizon, Missouri Valley, MCVL and other various collegiate conferences. Rolf is regularly selected to officiate NCAA and conference playoff matches, including the first woman selected as first referee at NCAA Men’s National Championship match in 2019 and held the same role at the 2016 NCAA Women’s Division I Championship match.
Rolf, with 25 years of collegiate head coaching, is USA Volleyball master IMPACT instructor, USAV CAP level III certified coach and USAV Cadre member. Rolf has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of Hopkins High School, North Dakota State University and University Minnesota Duluth. She has served on the boards of USA Volleyball, American Volleyball Coaches Association, PAVO, Badger Region and North Country Region as its president.
