DALLAS, Texas (June 28, 2019) – A record 616 teams will compete at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas June 30-July 7 at the 2019 Boys Junior National Championships (BJNC).
It’s the third straight year the number of teams at the event has increased. In 2017, BJNC hosted 510 teams, but that numbered jumped 13 percent in 2018 with 578 teams. This year’s number is a six percent increase.
Boys volleyball participation continues to grow nationwide. More and more high schools are offering it as a sanctioned sport, and men’s collegiate volleyball hit a milestone in 2018 with a record 150 NCAA schools sponsoring a team.
Dallas is hosting BJNC for the third time in the last 10 years; the city also hosted in 2012 and 2016. Approximately 18,000 players, family members and spectators are expected to visit the Dallas area for the tournament.
USA Volleyball will live stream four courts every day through the final championship match. The live stream begins Sunday, June 30, at 8 a.m. CT.
The BJNC uses a staggered start and finish for divisions over the course of the eight-day tournament played on 57 courts. Open and USA Division teams must qualify through USA Volleyball bid tournaments held across the country, or through at-large selections based on results at bid tournaments.
