Having played in the event for so many years herself, Lichtman says the experience coaching in the event brings back so many memories.
“Club volleyball is such a great time,” Lichtman said. “I loved that there are girls from all over the country and how many there are playing. This brings back memories of my teammates, coaches and even the refs. They are part of the reason that I am where I am today. This is where I came from.”
Lichtman believes the USAV Junior Nationals is more than about the wins, but what you get out of the experience.
“I think the main thing club volleyball should be about is getting better and having fun,” Lichtman said. “I think you don’t play volleyball club to win medals. It is great if you do, but we are playing to improve our skills to get better and play at the highest levels possible. And while you do it, to make friends who will last forever.”
After the first day of competition for the 15s divisions, Vision 15 Gold is 2-1 with a 25-12, 23-25, 15-4 win over Team VB Rags 15N Carly (Garden Empire) in the opener. After losing to Houston Stellar 15 Elite (Lone Star) 25-19, 25-21, Vision 15 Gold rebounded to defeat Wisconsin Premier 15 Teal 25-12, 25-17.
Lichtman made her international debut with the U.S. Women’s National Team at the 2011 Pan American Games as the Americans won bronze. She played in the Pan American Cup in four consecutive season (2012-2015), winning three gold medals and a silver in the event. Lichtman played in every tournament in 2013, including the season-ending FIVB World Grand Champions Cup that the U.S. captured the silver medal. She capped her National Team career in 2015 by helping Team USA win gold at the Pan American Games.
Last fall Lichtman served as an assistant coach at her alma mater, helping the Cardinal win the NCAA title.
