COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 16, 2022) – Three U.S. U19 beach teams are headed to single-elimination bracket play at the FIVB World Championship on Saturday in Türkiye.
The U.S. girls teams of Myriah Massey/Ashley Pater, seeded second, and Sophie Kubiak/Bailey Showalter, seeded 32nd, each went undefeated in pool play and advanced straight to the Round of 16.
“I feel amazing,” Pater said of her pair’s 2-0 win over Germany. “Myriah and I balled out that game and really performed. It made my confidence go up super high and I can’t wait to keep competing with Myriah for the gold.”
Coach Kristen Rohr commented on Kubiak/Showalter’s win over Austria on Friday.
“The ladies worked really hard today to come out first in their pool. We played a strong, physical Austria team and took care of our side of the net and made some great plays to finish in two.”
The boys team of Ayden Keeter/Tread Rosenthal, seeded 11th, finished second in pool at 2-1 and will play in the Round of 24 on Saturday.
