COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 23, 2026) — USA Volleyball announces that Casey Patterson has been named assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s Beach National Team. He will join head coach Matt Fuerbringer in leading the program’s top athletes through the 2026 season and beyond.
Patterson brings extensive elite-level experience to the role. A 2016 Olympian, he represented the United States alongside Jake Gibb at the Rio Games. The pair earned numerous accolades during their partnership, including USA Volleyball Team of the Year and AVP Team of the Year honors in 2013. Over the course of his professional career, Patterson captured 18 AVP titles, won two FIVB gold medals, and recorded a top-five finish at the 2015 FIVB World Championships.
“We’re excited to welcome Casey Patterson to our staff,” Fuerbringer said. “Casey brings elite-level experience, deep knowledge of the current game, and a passion for competition that fits exactly with the culture we’re building. He’s lived it at the highest level, and we believe his energy and perspective will help push our athletes and our program toward our goal of winning Olympic gold.”
Before transitioning to beach volleyball full time, Patterson played indoor volleyball at Brigham Young University and competed professionally overseas. Known for his energy, competitive spirit and deep understanding of the game, he has also partnered on the sand with top U.S. players such as Theo Brunner, Stanford Slick and Chase Budinger.
Patterson shared, “I’m incredibly honored to be part of USA Volleyball and to give back to a game that’s given me so much. At the highest level, beach volleyball is about trust, connection and the ability to perform with clarity under pressure, and that’s the environment we’re building every day. We’re creating a culture of positive energy, grit and adaptability, where athletes embrace challenges, evolve constantly, and turn every environment into an advantage. My goal is to help our athletes master the small details that win matches, compete with confidence and bring out the best in each other. We have the talent, the work ethic and the culture to do something special, and I’m all in on helping this group win gold.”
Beyond his accomplished playing career, Patterson has been deeply involved in coaching at multiple levels of the sport. He has worked with athletes in the U.S. beach development pipeline while also serving as head coach of the indoor program at Newbury Park High School, where he first learned the game. The role carries added meaning, with his son Cash currently in the program and his son Guy set to follow.
He has also remained committed to youth development through clinics, camps and partnerships aimed at growing the next generation of players. In addition to coaching, Patterson has stayed closely connected to the sport through media, commentary and content creation, helping expand the reach and visibility of high-level beach volleyball. These experiences have strengthened his belief in developing well-rounded athletes who can adapt, compete and thrive in any environment, an approach he will bring to the national team.
