COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 26, 2017) – The U.S. Men’s National Team fell to Dominican Republic, 25-14, 25-12, 25-19 on Wednesday at the Pan American Cup in Gatineau, Canada.
The U.S. Men (1-1) will play Cuba (1-0) in their final pool play match on Thursday.
The U.S. Men struggled with Dominican Republic’s tough serving and hitting. The Caribbean side finished with 41 kills and seven aces as compared to the United States’ 21 kills and no aces. Dominican Republic also led in blocks, 5-4.
“I think the Dominicans were the aggressors today and we kind of played hesitant,” U.S. Team Captain Jonah Seif said. “We just weren’t executing the game plan we talked about before the match. I think we need to re-set and just focus on Cuba. If we dwell on this game, it will just hold us back.”
Outside hitter Jake Langlois led the U.S. with seven points on six kills and one block. Middle blockers Mitch Stahl and Jeff Jendryk and opposite Arvis Greene each had four points.
Dominican Republic’s Elvis Contreras and Wilfrido Hernandez led all scorers with 13 points each.
