COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 5, 2017) – The 38th Annual USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships, which takes place June 25 to July 4 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, have finalized the fields for the five Open Division brackets in age groups 13 to 17 following selections of the at-large teams.
In the 17 Open Division, 36 teams will compete for the title as 34 earned bids through national qualifiers and two clubs earned at-large bids – AVC Cleveland Rox 17N Meredith from Ohio Valley Region and Wade 17 Kevin from Southern California Region – based on results throughout the season. North Texas Region has five teams competing in the 17 Open Division, while Southern California and Lone Star have four clubs participating.
In the 36-team 16 Open Division, Southern California has six teams, while North Texas and Lone Star have four teams competing. The two at-large spots were awarded to Arizona Storm 16 Thunder from Arizona Region and Skyline 16 Royal of North Texas.
The 36-team 15 Open Division has 29 teams qualified through the national qualifier season and seven teams as at-large berths. Southern California has six teams competing in the division, while Lone Star and North Texas has four and three teams, respectively. Based on their results throughout the season, at-large teams are Alamo 15 Premier from Lone Star, Arizona Storm 15 Thunder and Aspire 15 Rox from the Arizona Region, KC Power 15-1 from Heart of America Region, Nebraska Elite 15 Revolution and Premier Nebraska 15 Gold from the Great Plains Region, and Sky High adidas 15 Black from the Great Lakes Region.
The 36-team field in the 14 Open Division has 26 teams who earned spots through the national qualifier process, while 10 teams were awarded at-large bids. Southern California leads the way with six teams in the division, while North Texas has four teams. The at-large bids, hailing from 10 different USAV regions, were awarded to Circle City 14 Purple of the Hoosier Region, Club V 14 Black from the Intermountain Region, CVC 14 Black from Ohio Valley Region, Dynasty 14 Black from Heart of America, ITVC 14 Black from Puget Sound Region, Northern Lights 14-1 from the GJNC host North Country Region, Premier Nebraska 14 Gold from the Great Plains Region, Red Rock 14-1 from Northern California Region, Sky High adidas 14 Black from Great Lakes Region and Wave 14 Rachel from Southern California.
The 24-team 13 Open Division has five teams hailing from North Texas Region and four teams from Southern California. The four at-large teams are Asics MAVS 13-1 from Heart of America, Flyers 13 Rox Bill from North Texas, Ozark Juniors 131 from Delta Region and Surfside 13 Legends Gold from Southern California.
The Patriot Division, which does not require teams to qualify through other tournaments or at-large, will have its field set later this month.
