COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 4, 2016) – The U.S. Men’s Junior National Team is in Canada this week to compete at the NORCECA Under-21 Continental Championship on July 5-10 in Gatineau, Canada.
The event is a qualifier for the 2017 FIVB U21 World Championship in Brno, Czech Republic.
The team will open pool play on July 5 against Barbados and will play its second pool play match on July 7 against St. Vincent.
In the other pool are Canada, Cuba, Guatemala and Trinidad & Tobago.
Quarterfinals will be played July 8. The pool winners will go directly to the semifinals on July 9. The final matches will be July 10.
The matches on July 8-10 will be streamed live. That link will be posted when it is available.
After winning gold at the NORCECA Championship in 2010 and 2012, the U.S. Men’s Junior Team took bronze in 2014 and will be looking to improve this week.
The team’s outside hitters are Reese Devilbiss, Austin Matautia and Dylan Missry. Kyle Ensing and Michael Wexter have been selected as the opposite hitters.
Middle blockers on the team are George Huhmann, Scott Stadick and Jack Cole, while Josh Tuaniga and Joe Worsley have been named the setters. Matt Douglas will anchor the defense at libero.
Tuaniga, Ewert, Stadick and Worsley were members of the 2014 Boys’ Youth National Team that won the NORCECA U19 Championship.
Huhmann, Ensing, Wexter and Devilbiss joined those four on the 2015 Boys’ Youth National Team that finished seventh at the FIVB U19 World Championships.
