COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 10, 2016) – Outside hitter Reid Priddy is looking to compete in his fourth straight Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Priddy was a key part of the 2008 Olympic volleyball team that won the gold medal in Beijing.
This winter, Priddy is playing for Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova in Italy. Civitanova finished the regular season on March 6 in first place in the league.
Here are five things you might not know about Reid Priddy:
- His full name is William Reid Priddy and teammates sometimes call him Willy.
- While training for the 2011 NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship, Priddy was elbowed in the face during practice while coming down from a block. The injury and its resulting complications required two surgeries and he was not able to play in the tournament.
- Priddy and wife Lindsay have two children: Caden and Scarlett
- After the 2008 Olympic Games, Priddy helped start an internet radio show devoted to volleyball called The NET Live that continues to this day.
- Priddy played college volleyball at Loyola Marymount in California, but the school dropped its men’s volleyball program in 2000 after Priddy’s senior year.
ITALY
In their final match of the regular season, setter Micah Christenson, outside hitter Reid Priddy and Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova beat Diatec Trentino, 25-23, 25-19, 25-17 on March 6. Christenson did not play in the match and Priddy played as a substitute. Civitanova finished the regular season in first place at 20-2.
Outside hitter Taylor Sander and Calzedonia Verona beat Gi Group Monza, 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22 on March 6. Sander scored 17 points on 16 kills and one block. He was credited with 23 receptions, 57 percent positive. Verona finished the regular season in fourth place.
Outside hitter Aaron Russell and Sir Safety Conad Perugia beat Ninfa Latina, 25-19, 25-20, 25-22. Russell scored nine points on five kills, one block and three aces. He was credited with 14 receptions, 29 percent positive. Perugia finished the regular season in fifth place.
Outside hitter Brian Cook, middle blocker Taylor Averill and Tonazzo Padova beat DHL Modena, 17-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-11 on March 6. Averill scored 12 points on nine kills and three blocks. Cook added nine points on seven attacks, one block and one ace. He was credited with 23 receptions, 57 percent positive. Padova finished the regular season in seventh place.
In the first round of playoffs on March 10, Russell and Perugia beat Sander and Verona, 24-26, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21, 15-10. Russell scored 24 points on 19 kills and five aces. He was credited with 22 receptions, 32 percent positive. Sander finished with 13 points on 10 attacks and a team-high three aces. He was credited with 42 receptions, 48 percent positive.
Christenson, Priddy and Civitanova beat Ninfa Latina, 23-25, 25-14, 24-26, 25-22, 15-13. Christenson scored five points on two kills and a team-high three aces. He set the team to a .414 hitting efficiency. Priddy played as a substitute and scored one point with a block.
Cook, Averill and Padova fell to DHL Modena, 25-20, 34-32, 25-20. Cook scored 13 points on 11 attacks and two blocks. He was credited with 26 receptions, 38 percent positive. Averill scored six points on four attacks, one block and one ace.
GERMANY
The Berlin Recycling Volleys, including Erik Shoji and outside hitter Paul Lotman, won their weekend match over RheinMain on March 5, 25-21, 31-29, 25-21. Shoji was credited with 15 receptions, 73 percent positive. Lotman scored eight points on five kills and a match-high three aces. He was credited with 37 receptions, 46 percent positive.
Middle blocker Scott Kevorken and Luneburg beat CV Mitteldeutschland, 25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 17-25, 15-9 on March 5. Kevorken scored 11 points on five kills and a match-high six aces.
On March 9, Luneburg upset Berlin, 25-22, 36-38, 26-24, 23-25, 15-12. Kevorken scored 10 points on eight kills and two aces. Shoji was credited with 27 receptions, 63 percent positive. Lotman scored 16 points on 13 kills, two blocks and one ace. He was credited with 28 receptions, 50 percent positive.
Setter Graham McIlvaine and TV Ingersoll Buhl beat the Netzhoppers KW-Bestensee, 20-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 15-11 on March 5. McIlvaine scored eight points on two kills, four blocks and two aces. He set his team to a .388 hitting efficiency. Outside hitter Peter Russell started the final four sets and scored eight points on four kills, two blocks and two aces. He was credited with 32 receptions, 50 percent positive.
On March 9. Buhl fell to Mitteldeutschlan, 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 26-24, 16-14. McIlvaine started the first set and played as a substitute but did not score. Russell played as a substitute and started the fifth set, finishing with four points on four kills. He was credited with 11 receptions, 27 percent positive.
POLAND
Outside hitter Thomas Jaeschke, middle blocker Russell Holmes and Asseco Resovia Rzeszów beat AZS Politechnika Warszawska, 25-18, 21-25, 25-23, 25-18 on March 6. Jaeschke scored six points on six kills and was credited with 21 receptions, 43 percent positive. Holmes played as a substitute and started the third set and scored one points on one kill.
Opposite Murphy Troy and Lotos Trefl Gdansk fell to Cuprum Lubin, 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 on March 5. Troy started the first two sets and scored 16 points on 14 kills and two blocks to lead his team.
RUSSIA
Matt Anderson led Zenit Kazan past Kuzbass Kemerovo, 25-23, 20-25, 22-25, 25-19, 16-14 in March 5. Anderson, who plays outside hitter for Kazan, led Kazan with 23 points on 18 kills, three blocks and two aces. He was credited with 38 receptions, 50 percent positive. A few days later, Anderson led all scorers as Kazan defeated Gubernyia Nizhniy Novgorod, 25-22, 25-19, 27-25 on March 9. Anderson scored 19 points on 14 attacks, two blocks and a team-high three aces. He was credited with 11 receptions, 27 percent positive.
Middle blocker Max Holt and Dinamo Moscow fell to Fakel Novy Urengoy, 25-21, 16-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-11 on March 5. Holt scored eight points on five kills, two blocks and one ace. On March 9, Moscow beat Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, 25-15, 25-17, 27-25. Holt scored seven points on six kills and one block.
FRANCE
Middle blocker David Smith and Tours beat Lyon 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 on March 5. Smith scored 11 points on seven kills and a team-high four blocks.
Libero Dustin Watten and Nancy lost to Narbonne, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21. Watten was credited with 29 receptions, 55 percent positive.
GREECE
Outside hitter Jayson Jablonsky and PAOK beat AO Orestiadas, 25-21, 25-16, 25-20 on March 7. Jablonsky scored six points on three kills, one block and two aces. Middle blocker David Lee was on the roster for PAOK but did not play in the match.
TURKEY
Setter Kawika Shoji and Arkas Spor beat Galatasaray HDI Sigorta, 25-13, 25-22, 25-19. Shoji scored three points on two kills and one block and set his team to a .385 hitting efficiency. Outside hitter Joe Sunder, who plays for Galatasaray, scored nine points on seven kills and two aces.
Opposite Will Price and Istanbul BBSK fell to Inegol Bld., 25-18, 25-18, 25-21 on March 6. Price scored nine points on seven kills and two blocks.
