COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 7, 2020) – Several U.S. Women’s National Team players were involved in the ASA Sigorta Cup matches in Turkey.
Six teams advanced to the quarterfinals after matches played Sept. 6. Two other teams will advance after matches to be played later.
VakifBank will advance after beating Nilüfer Bld., 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-20). Outside hitter Michelle Bartsch-Hackley scored 10 points on 10 kills for Vakifbank. For Nilüfer Bld., outside hitter Sarah Wilhite Parsons finished with seven points on six kills and one ace. U.S. player Willow Johnson scored three points at opposite.
Eczacıbaşı VitrA, with opposite Jordan Thompson and middle blocker Chiaka Ogbogu will advance after beating Aydın B.Şehir Bld., including middle blocker Rachael Adams, 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-15).
Thompson led all scorers with 19 points on 13 kills, two blocks and four aces. Ogbogu finished with seven points on six kills and one block. Adams led her team with 12 points on seven kills, one block and four aces.
Türk Hava Yolları with setter Lauren Carlini and outside hitter Madi Kingdon Rishel fell to Fenerbahçe Opet, 3-0 (25-22, 32-30, 25-17). Rishel did not play. Carlini started all three sets but did not score.
POLAND
Middle blocker David Smith and Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn – Koźle beat PGE Skrę Bełchatów in the final of Poland’s SuperCup, 3-1 (20-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-19).
Smith scored eight points on five kills, two blocks and one ace in the final. U.S. outside hitter Taylor Sander is on Bełchatów’s overall roster but was not on the roster for the SuperCup.
In the semifinals, Smith and Kędzierzyn – Koźle beat U.S. middle blocker Jeff Jendryk and Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-14). Smith scored six points on four kills, one block and one ace. Jendryk scored six points on four kills and two blocks.
ITALY
Imoco Volley Conegliano won the women’s Italian SuperCup on Sunday with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-15) victory over Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio in the final.
U.S. outside hitters Kim Hill and McKenzie Adams are both on the overall roster for Conegliano, although only Adams was on the roster for the SuperCup matches and finished with 12 points in the final.
U.S. setter Jordyn Poulter was on the roster for Arsizio but did not play.
In the semifinals, Arsizio defeated Igor Gorganzola Novara, with U.S. middle blocker Haleigh Washington and setter Micha Hancock, 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22). Washington scored six points on four kills, one block and one ace. Hancock scored six points on three kills, two blocks and one ace.
Italy’s men’s SuperCup will begin Sept. 13.
