COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA’s Trevor Crabb and Avery Drost tied for ninth at the FIVB World Tour stop in Portugal on Friday.
Trevor Crabb and Avery Drost tied for ninth at the FIVB World Tour Espinho 2-Star tournament on Friday. The duo were the lone American team at the men’s only tournament.
Crabb and Drost opened the 24-team single elimination Main Draw with a victory against native’s Januario Silva/Sebastiao Alves of Portugal, winning 21-18, 27-25. In the Round of 16, the duo were eliminated by Norway’s Anders Berntsen Mol/Mathias Bernsten, 21-16, 21-14.
It marked just the second FIVB World Tour event for Drost in 2017, and a best finish for the duo, topping their only other appearance together – 33rd in 2015.
Espinho is the last regular-season FIVB World Tour stop prior to the Swatch FIVB World Tour Finals, which will take place in Hamburg, Germany, from Aug. 22-27. Currently, the FIVB Beach World Championships are taking place in Vienna, Austria, with opening day happening July 28.
