COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 22, 2017) – The U.S. Boys Youth Team suffered its first loss of the 2017 FIVB Boys U19 World Championship, falling to Egypt, 18-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21 on Tuesday in Bahrain.
The U.S. BYNT (3-1) finished third in Pool A and will play France (3-1), the second-place team in Pool B, in the round of 16 on Thursday at 5 a.m. PT.
“We tried to fight hard,” U.S. Head Coach Sam Shweisky told the FIVB. “We will now look at the video and to improve.”
The U.S. Boys led Egypt in kills (53-49), blocks (13-8) and aces (6-3). But Egypt scored 34 points off U.S. errors, while giving up 19. Egypt also led in digs (27-18) and in excellent receptions (47-36).
U.S. opposite Jaylen Jasper led all scorers with 23 points on a match-high 21 kills and two blocks. Outside hitter Devin Joslyn added 15 points on 11 kills, three blocks and one ace.
Middle blocker Kyler Presho finished with a match-high four blocks while middle Sam Lewis and Joslyn each had three. Presho and Lewis each finished with two aces.
