DALLAS (May 30, 2018) – The USA Volleyball Open National Championships concluded Wednesday in Dallas with the final 12 divisions crowning winners and podium finishers at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas.
Sport Court is the official athletic flooring for all USA Volleyball national championship events.
Men’s BB:
Overkill (Great Lakes) swept HOMEBOYZ (Lone Star) 25-22, 25-17 in a battle of undefeated teams in the Men’s BB Division championship match. Overkill, 9-0 on the tournament with just one set loss, defeated Thighed Out (New England) 25-22, 25-10 in the quarterfinals and Dimes (Gateway) in the semifinal round. HOMEBOYZ, 8-1 on the tournament, earned its ticket to the finals by blanking CU Slam Diego (Keystone) in the quarterfinals and Marysville Goodyear (Lakeshore) 25-21, 25-19 in the semifinals. Marysville Goodyear defeated Dimes 25-14, 19-25, 15-12 to win the bronze medal.
Men’s B
V&C/Palestra-SBC MB (Brazil) topped Skyline/Tritek (North Texas) 25-15, 25-16 in the Men’s B Division championship match. V&C/Palestra-SBC MB went undefeated in 10 matches while losing just one set. They advanced to the title match by sweeping Team Hollywood (Iowa) 25-14, 25-16 in the quarterfinals and Chicago Coast (Great Lakes) 25-18, 25-20 in the semifinals. Skyline/Tritek, 7-3 on the tournament, earned its spot in the championship match by rallying past Club Volleywood (Northern California 19-25, 25-13, 20-18 in the quarterfinals and Rising Tide (New England) 19-25, 25-22, 15-11 in the semifinals. Rising Tide came back to win the bronze medal with a 26-24, 25-20 win over Chicago Coast.
Men’s 45-and-Over
Balboa Bay 45 (Southern California) swept Adversity 45 (Great Lakes) 25-8, 25-20 in the Men’s 45-and-Over Division championship match to go undefeated in nine matches. Balboa Bay 45, which dropped just two sets in the tournament, earned its ticket to the finals by defeating Passed Our Prime (Old Dominion) 25-23, 25-14 in the quarterfinals and Botafogo Pro Combat (Brazil) 25-22, 25-21 in the semifinals. Adversity 45, which went 6-4 in the tournament, advanced to the finals by defeating Botafogo Pro Combat 25-23, 25-23 in the loser’s bracket finals after losing twice earlier to the bronze medalists. Adversity 45’s two other losses were at the hands of champions Balboa Bay 45.
Men’s 55-and-Over
Western States Laguna (Southern California) defeated Kings Mountain Fog 55 (Northern California) 25-15, 25-15 in the Men’s 55-and-Over championship match, avenging a loss to the silver medalists. Western States Laguna, which lost the opening match of both the first and second rounds, finished the tournament with a 6-2 record. The winners advanced to the championship match by defeating Hunter Douglas (Brazil), who they lost to in the first match of the tournament, 25-14, 25-13 in the quarterfinals and Kings Mountain Fog 55 25-23, 25-22 in the semifinals. Kings Mountain Fog, which ended the tournament with a 7-2 record and both losses to Western States Laguna, defeated bronze medalist Hunter Douglas 13-25, 25-19, 15-13 in the loser’s bracket final to reach the finals.
Men’s 65-and-Over
Kings Mountain Fog 65 (Northern California) edged Sao Paulo Master 65+ (Brazil) 25-18, 25-27, 15-7 in the Men’s 65-and-Over Division title match. Kings Mountain Fog 65 ended the tournament with an 8-0 record, dropping only two sets along the way. They reached the championship match by topping Quiksilver Legends 65 (Southern California) 25-16, 25-11 in the quarterfinals and Sao Paulo Master 65+ 25-20, 25-22 in the semifinals. Sao Paulo Master 65+, which ended the tournament 7-2 with both of its losses to the champions, advanced to the finals by defeating bronze medalist Quiksilver Legends 65 25-19, 25-16 in the loser’s bracket finals.
Men’s 73-and-Over
Sun of a Beach (Southern California) captured the Men’s 73-and-Over Division title with a 25-20, 25-20 win over Rustys 73 (Columbia Empire). Sun of a Beach, which finished 8-1 in the tournament and its only loss to Rustys 73 in first-round pool play, topped V&C/Brasil M73+ (Brazil) 25-18, 25-14 in the quarterfinals and Rustys 73 25-21, 25-22 in the semifinals. Rustys 73, 8-2 on the tournament with its only two losses at the hands of Sun of a Beach, beat bronze medalist V&C/Brasil M73+ 2519, 25-18 in the loser’s bracket finals to reach the championship match.
Men’s 78-and-Over
Rusty 78 (Columbia Empire) needed an extra set, including coming from the loser’s bracket, but came away with the Men’s 78-and-Over Division championship title by defeating MAC MAGIC 25-10 in the Golden set. Rusty 78, 8-3 on the tournament, lost to MAC MAGIC 78 25-12, 25-18 in the semifinals, but caught fire afterwards. Rusty 78 topped Mountain Goats 25-15, 25-15 in the loser’s bracket finals and handled MAC MAGIC 78 25-14, 25-18 in the final to force the extra set. MAC MAGIC 78, 6-4 on the tournament, reached the championship match despite losing two of its first three matches of the tournament. They beat AA Adults Toy Storage 25-12, 25-17 in the quarterfinals.
Women’s BB
Lady Sorin (Hoosier) came from behind to defeat Hitlist (New England) 23-25, 25-16, 15-12 in the Women’s BB Division championship match in a battle of undefeated teams. Lady Sorin, which lost its only set of the tournament during the title match, advanced to the championship by sweeping Thunder Chicks! (New England) 25-18, 25-14 in the quarterfinals and Premier Athletics STL (Gateway) 25-17, 25-14 in the semifinals. Hitlist beat Maine Squeeze (New England) 23-25, 25-16, 15-7 in the quarterfinals and SheVegas VBC (Badger) 25-20, 25-11 in the semifinals. SheVegas VBC won the bronze medal with a 25-21, 25-21 win over Premier Athletics STL.
Women’s B
Hit-Faced (New England) beat Boom (Iowa) to win the Women’s B Division championship match. Hit-Faced, 9-0 on the tournament with just three set losses, advanced to the finals by winning a hard-fought 30-32, 26-24, 15-11 match against Ice Cold Killas (Iowa) in the quarterfinals followed by a 25-16, 14-25, 16-14 win over Lady Chickens (Great Lakes) in the semifinals. Boom, 7-2 on the tournament, topped Mully’s Fireball (Chesapeake) 27-25, 25-17 in the quarterfinals and Just Keep Swinging (New England) 25-19, 25-19 in the semifinals. Lady Chickens won the bronze-medal match with a 25-13, 25-15 win over Just Keep Swinging.
Women’s 40-and-Over
Fog Canada 40s 110-1 (Canada) rallied past Brazil SM (Brazil) to claim the Women’s 40-and-Over Division championship title. Fog Canada 40s 110-1, which ended the tournament with a 7-1 record, advanced to the title match by topping Desert Divas (Southern California) 25-21, 25-21 in the quarterfinals and Brazil SM 25-15, 20-25, 15-8 in the semifinals. Brazil SM bounced back to beat Desert Divas 22-25, 25-11, 15-13 in the loser’s bracket final to earn a rematch with Fog Canada 40s 110-1 in the finals.
Women’s 50-and-Over
Volei Brasil (Brazil) took home gold in the Women’s 50-and-Over Division with a 25-14, 25-15 win over Panama Jack San Diego 50 (Southern California) in the championship match. Volei Brasil, undefeated in 10 matches, lost its only set of the tournament to Panama Jack San Diego 50 with a 16-25, 25-16, 15-5 win in the semifinals after beating New England 49ers (New England) in the quarterfinals. Panama Jack San Diego 50, 8-3 in the tournament and all three losses to Volei Brasil, bounced back to beat New England 49ers 20-25, 25-20, 17-15 in the loser’s bracket final to move into the title match.
Women’s 60-and-Over
Brasil Mix-60 (Brazil) beat country compatriots Volei Brasil (Brazil) 25-18, 26-24 in the Women’s 60-and-Over Division championship match. Brasil Mix-60, which went undefeated in seven matches, earned its spot in the finals by defeating KMJ Brasil 60 (Brazil) 25-14, 25-17 in the quarterfinals and Volei Brasil 21-25, 25-19, 16-14 in the semifinals. Volei Brasil, 5-3 in the tournament with all three losses to the champions, topped bronze medalist Lokahi 60 (Keystone) 25-7, 25-11 in the loser’s bracket finals.
