COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Competitors from five age group divisions took to the sand this week at the annual USA Volleyball Beach High Performance Championships.
Ages ranging from Under 13 to Under 23, competition took place near the pier of Hermosa Beach, Calif. From the High Performance pipeline, A1 and A2 National Teams were awarded automatic entry into the competition.
“This year’s High Performance Championships were held in the mecca of beach volleyball, at Hermosa Beach,” said USAV’s Beach High Performance Manager Megan Burgdorf. “We had over 250 of the country’s top talent competing, with top pairs from Brazil, Canada and Puerto Rico, which significantly enhanced the boys’ side of competition.”
Twenty-two courts were in action at the peak of the five day event. Also in attendance were the USAV U19 Team Trials winners Aidan Brown and Lucas Lossone, who won the U19 Beach HP Championships and will now travel to Cyprus for the FIVB Under 19 World Championships, which is set to begin in 10 days.
“More than 20 of USA Volleyball’s regions featured athletes this year, providing an opportunity to compete in an international style event. This was also the inaugural year for the U13 Boys age group,” Burgdorf added.
