COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 25, 2020) – Out of profound concern for the health and wellness of competitors, fans and the public, and honoring local and statewide orders related to events and gatherings, USA Volleyball and the USOPC today announce the cancellation of the 2020 Team USA Champions Series Collegiate Beach Championships scheduled for May 6-9 in Hermosa Beach, Calif.

The event was planned to be part of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s Team USA Champions Series.

“The safety of the athletes and staff is our top priority. That, along with the suspension of the 2020 NCAA beach volleyball season and the ‘shelter-in-place’ orders in California and other states, led us to this decision,” USA Volleyball CEO Jamie Davis said. “Our hearts go out to all the college beach teams that saw their seasons end early. We hope we can spotlight them again in 2021.”

The event would have qualified teams for the 2020 World University Championships on June 23-27 in Torremolinos, Spain, which has also been canceled by the International University Sports Federation (FISU)
