COLUMBUS, Ohio (July 5, 2017) – The 949 14 Black B-Jason volleyball team out of the Southern California Region capped off a rigorous four days of play at the Boys Junior National Championships with a victory in the 14 Open Division at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

The 949 defeated Team Rockstar 14-1, also from the Southern California Region, in the final, 25-22, 25-21. The 949 finished the tournament with a 10-2 record.

Southern California’s SCVC 14 Quicksilver tied for third place with Puerto Rico’s UVS 14UM Juan.

“The tournament was incredible,” 949 Head Coach Jason Elder said. “We peaked this week. We played as a team. We played tough all the way through. That’s a team, Rockstar, that we haven’t beaten all season.

“We were challenged all week. The very first match of the tournament, we won in three against Pacific Rim, 15-13 in the third. That really opened the boys’ eyes to ‘Hey, this is Nationals.’ ”

In the 14 Club Division final, San Clemente 14 Tim out of Southern California beat LBVC 14 Gold (SoCal), 27-25, 25-21. MVVC 14 Black out of Northern California and SB Coast 14-1 from Southern California tied for third.

A record 510 teams and more than 5,000 top boys junior players, ages 12-18, from the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Guam are participating in the Boys Junior National Championships this year.
